Freshwater vs Tahitian

Take a look at this picture, then take a guess. Which is the Tahitian strand and which is the Freshwater?

Here's a link to an even larger photo so you can really examin them closely:

My guess, the one with the bend on the left is Tahitian :)

DK :)

my guess is the same-- the one to the left is Tahitian.
man, I think I need some dyed freshwaters. :)

They look very similar in the photo. However, if you put them next together in natural light setting, I think it would be a lot easier to tell them apart.

Hi
I have just got in some nominally black freshwaters which show real Tahitian green and purple metallic too. Even unto a mix of green and purple on the same pearl.
Great photos Terry- I'm not happy with the first lot I did of mine and I am going to redo them

The one with the clasp/lock probably. It has typical surface indentations more likely seen in saltwater pearls. The freshwater ones are very clean. That's my opinion anyway.

Hi members,
I too think that the above strand with the left bend are the Tahitians. However, if I can get a freshwater strand with those lovely "Tahitian"-colours, this might be a good way to get pearls much cheaper and still getting a certain "Tahitian-feeling".

Based on that clasp I would say the ones without a clasp - that filigree one is not a Tahitian sort of clasp.
Defo hard to tell from your photo

The one with the clasp is Tahitian. There are a few pearls with some of the darkest green, almost blackish Tahitian colors, as well as some silvery green (5th pearl from the clasp, hard to imitate with dye job). The one on the right definitely has a more uniform color arrangement. Some pearls has that purplish overtone on bluish-green pearls that is similar to some dyed FW I've seen.

Terry, what size are the pearls please?

DK :)

If that one on the left with the clasp is freshwater, I want one!

First impression, the one on the left. But don't know what size they are - the size and roundness of the one on the right is more consistent with Tahitians, but the colors look too good to be true.

Fish hook clasp is about 5mm wide. I'd say the left strand is about 8mm pearls, small Tahitians.:)

Every time I answer one of these I am wrong. But I am going to say the ones on the right are TP.

If I'm wrong Caitlin has permission to delete this post.:)

Well, the strand with the clasp has 48 pearls in it. Utterly consistent with Terry's AAA 9-10mm Freshwater pearl strand. It does have more silver though, which makes me think Tahitian. But hey, you see a duck, you hear a quack. I'm usually wrong anyway so here goes...it's a freshwater...

The one with the clasp is the Tahitian-- and I'm basing it on the blemishes visible.
