David Atlas, GG, is a nationally recognized
gemologist, independent appraiser and jewelry buyer with 43 years of real world experience beginning in 1967. During this time, David has been an active estate buyer, new jewelry manufacturer, diamond dealer and appraiser. He enjoyed 30 years of working side by side with his appraiser/gemologist father.
Robert C. Aretz, GG, has been working full time in the jewelry business since 1973,. Experience in making jewelry, retailing and fifteen years buying and selling estate jewelry specializing in antique jewelry.
Ann Cahoon is a designer goldsmith in rural northern Massachusetts with a passion for detailed design and fabrication. Her work is deeply informed by the needlework of the women in her family, which surrounded her during childhood, and her resulting youthful assumption that everyone ?makes stuff.? It is no surprise that he has come to focus on loopin-loop chain making, a process with repetition and rhythms much like the needlework that was such an integral part of her upbringing.
Edward Faber is the author of American Wristwatches: Five Decades of Style and Design and the definitive text on collecting American vintage watches. He is a frequent lecturer on the history and value of timepieces and jewelry, with appearances on the Today show as well as numerous cable programs. He founded Aaron Faber Gallery in 1974 in New York City.
Patricia Kiley Faber, GG, is co-owner of Aaron Faber Gallery in New York City and her niche is to present work of contemporary studio jewelry artists. Ms. Faber and the gallery have been profiled in Departures magazine and featured on Good Day New
York. She is an expert in the field of studio jewelry and a frequent lecturer on the subject.
Rui Galopim de Carvalho, FGA, has developed extensive gem testing work in close collaboration with several public and private museums, as well as with the Church, in diverse inventory projects throughout the country. He is a co-author and contributor to various publications and the author of Precious Stones in Art and Devotion - Gemmological Treasures at the Archdiocese of Evora and Precious Stones in Sacred Art in Portugal.
Elyse Zorn Karlin is the past president of the American Society of Jewelry Historians and is currently the Executive Editor of Adornment, The Magazine of Jewelry & Related Arts. She is codirector of the Association for the Study of Jewelry & Related Arts and the author of Jewelry & Metalwork in the Arts & Crafts Tradition. She is also co-author of Imperishable Beauty: Art Nouveau Jewelry.
Gary Lester, GG, started in the jewelry business as an officer manager. He transferred to sales and began his GIA classes. The opportunity arose to become the service manager of an old established jewelry store. He worked closely with watchmakers and jewelers in all aspects. He earned his GG in 1987 and become a member of NAJA. He later became a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collections (NAWCC). In 1990, he became president of Eastern Gem Labs.

Fine Jewelry Department and one of the nation?s renowned experts on antique jewelry. Her skillful marketing and management of Skinner?s Fine
Jewelry department has resulted in achievement of international world records prices for estate and heirloom jewelry, gaining valuable recognition for Skinner. Gloria is also a leading auctioneer and appraiser at Skinner and responsible for a wide range of marketing activities throughout the country.
Yvonne J. Markowitz is the Rita J. Kaplan and Susan B. Kaplan Curator of Jewelry in the David and Roberta Logie Department of Textile and Fashion Arts, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The first curatorship of its kind in America, Ms. Markowitz oversees the museum?s exceptional collection of jewelry. Ms. Markowitz co-edited Pharaohs of the Sun: Akhenaten, Nefertiti and co-authored Egypt in the Age of the Pyramids.
Suzanne Martinez, GG is co-owner of Lang
Antiques and LangAntiques.com and now, the founder and president of Antique Jewelry University. She is currently a senior member of NAJA, Senior Gemologist with the Accredited Gemologists Association and a member of the American Society of Jewelry Historians, American Gem Trade Association and the International Colored Stone Association.
Richard McMullen has been dealing in fine antique jewelry over the past 30 years. His love of the Art Nouveau period lead him to study the metalsmithing and enameling techniques of her mater jewelers of the early 1900?s For the past ten years, he has been perfecting these same skills to create his own unique designs.
Mona Miller, GG, is the owner of Pacific Gemological Laboratories in Portland Oregon. She has been actively involved in the gem and jewelry trade since 1983. Mona is a course developer & instructor for advanced gemology classes and period fashion & jewelry.

Combined, they carry nearly 70 years of experience in period and antique jewelry, precious metals, appraising, and education. Their goal is to bring the language of hallmarking back into the forefront as more jewelry is traded globally.
Chris Ploof stated creating early in life. While growing up in Massachusetts, he used to visit a local living history museum. While there, he spent hours watching the blacksmith and tinsmith work their craft. He was amazed to watch simple tools, hands and heart make complex items of beauty. He would then go home, and using whatever was at hand, re-enact what he had seen.
Kathrin Schoenke, GG, was born into a family of German jewelers, with a jewelry making tradition dating back to 1723. She was schooled and trained in the fields of traditional bench jewelry manufacturing, product design and gemology in Germany and Switzerland and holds a BA degree in product design and a MA degree in Metallurgy.
Peter J. Shemonsky, GG, has worked within the jewelry industry throughout his professional career in retailing, design, manufacturing and auction venues. He is the former director for CIRCA, San Francisco, and in 2010 left CIRCA to open his own private jewelry business specializing in fine, antique and estate jewelry in addition to creating an informational website for jewelry enthusiasts.
Tim Spauwen, FGA, is the administrator of Antique Jewelry University (AJU). He has a degree in history and writes for AJU. He is also editor of the Gemology Project and moderates and teaches on the Gemology online forum.
Simon Teakle is the Director of Estate Jewelry for Betteridge Jewelers in Greenwich, CT He is an internationally recognized figure in th jewelry industry, he was formerly the head of Christie?s Jewelry Department in the United States.
