About 5 years ago I was eating clams that we purchased close to Virginia beach. I almost broke my tooth on this pearl. It is almost perfectly round. It has a brownish purple color to it. I don't know the type of pearl or if it has any value. Thanks for any help!! :)

Pearls from clams are not uncommon. Nonetheless, finding a pearl is a fun experience, especially if no teeth are broken. ;)

Like this one, they rarely have the luster of the highly nacreous species and may be damaged by cooking. Hence retain little or no value as applied to gem quality.

It's greatest value is as a keepsake.

That's neat. I bit into a pearl once but it was tiny and crumbly. Yours is story worthy! Definitely worth setting into just the right piece of jewelry. :)
