Thanks for posting the links Bogus. Very fun. Look at those prices! I think I like the single pendant one the best. You could wear that a ton. And only going for somewhere between $80 - $120K!

Hi all
These links are now missing their pictures since the auction closed.
I was especially entranced by the 7 strand natural pearl necklace with all different colors and sizes of natural pearls on it. I want to make one similar but in cfwp.
Did anyone here save a copy of the picture on their computer? If you did would you private message me and I'll send you my email address. I am so sorry we didn't just copy it here!

Sorry... I remember the thing you are talking about but have not saved the images. You can order them, it seems, but I have never tried the "Premium Image' service to know how that might work.

In the meantime I a fairly sure you guys would like to click THIS: a historic pearl bunch is out under the hammer (the "Gulf pearl parure") along some befitting peers.

Lot 190 looks rather interesting to me. I would prefer some color variety though. I am somewhat overassorted in white to cream.

Caitlin: I was sure I'd saved a picture of those pearls, but couldn't find them...even checked other forums to see if I'd posted them elsewhere...but no luck. Did you ever get a copy?

Ana: Great minds think alike! I'd intended to post a link to this sale...lots of natural pearls...but hadn't gotten around to it.

Zeide: I too noticed a marked shortage of color in the collection. I'm assuming that the "Royal House" referred to in the sale title is Mid-Eastern. Could it be some sort of ethnic/religious thing that white/cream pearls are favored over colored pearls? Just curious...

Hi Bogus,

There were too many cultured pearls in the collection for this to be Middle Eastern. Given the sheer amount of watches, I assume that this collection is from one of the defunct European royal houses. The pet royals get a lot of presents (mostly watches) from companies and socialites for attending their functions and parties but they are notorious for their cash flow problems.

That's funny, Zeide! (the note about watch gifts )... and true.... Also true for fringe royalty of oil states cornering charities in Europe and beyond. This time, the auctioneer's discretion over provenance makes me think that's the case. But, whatever, it may take a while to find out anyway. The loose lots are most intriguing (202 would make great jeweler's stock - what else?) and Christies phrases the sale over a 'revival' of interest in natural pearls (In Press center, HERE)

Anyway, this sale reminds me of a remark of yours I found most interesting: that the image of PPB cultured pearls was shaped to fit what the potential buyers had known - fake pearls. Perhaps the world would have been different had Mikimoto had the appropriate (www) media at hand to publicize the image of real pearls. Non-nucleated pearls can only gain ground if their natural counterparts get out of the shade again. It would be fun to watch, at least

That Christie's collection visited Dubai last month, unfortunately it was only open to the public for a day, so I missed seeing the 'Gulf Pearl Perure'...

No ID is given for cultures V.S. natural - which would only be in case of positive identification by certificate or provenance which these ones don't have. If any suggestion detail short of an ID is there, it could be dug out by an inquiry.
