OK, I'm taking the bait and starting a new thread! I have collected lots of photos of figurative pearl pieces, but most have been beasties, so I'll start off by posting one of my own creations. I found the body parts at Pearl Paradise following a ruckus a couple years back. She is holding a special Kamoka pearl I brought home after my visit to the farm some years before that.

And to follow up, here are photos I took of a couple renaissance pieces in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

You started this thread with wonderful pieces - love your mermaid. Thank you! Looking forward to the pictures to come.

That mermaid is fantastic! If you were to enter it into a jewelry contest I bet you would win a prize.

Whoa look at that, pearls can be sexy too. Great job, la_corsettiere.

Does anyone know how these jewels were these worn? On a chain around the neck at the 18" level? Or over the bulky clothes, hanging off one of those bulky shoulder chains so the gem hangs around mid chest level? Were these gems worn by men or women? I never see that info. I only ever see closeups of the gem itself, out of context.

MSC: Thank you! Pinned to the huge sleeves. I never would have guessed. And I've seen all these old paintings in tiny photos in books, and never picked up on that. I'll have to pay more attention from now on.

That is fascinating! I always just assumed they were worn as more traditional pendants.

As nice as the renaissance pieces are, I still find Sheri's mermaid to be far more amazing than any of the other pieces! True to Sheri's mermaids, this one also have boobs and buns! I mean look at her! And that fiery head of pearl hair!!! LUV!

Wow, thanks MSC ... I had no idea either! No wonder they needed people to dress and undress them ... All so interesting, lovely examples ... but I'd still stack up Sheri's mermaid at the top of them all ... her remarkable hair, a Kamoka pearl in her hand ... WONDERFUL, and by far my favorite.
