I'm new to the forums and having trouble sending pictures, so this may be a repeat. I bought a silver faceted blue pearl ring in Northern Luzon in the Philippines 49 years ago. It has flaws, but is beautiful. Could you tell me what type it is and its approximate value? Thanks, Kitkhat

It could be a naturally colored cultured akoya pearl. Sometimes when the bead is implanted there is injury to the gonad, and a black/brown organic substance oozes over the bead. Nacre is laid down over this substance. In the harvested pearl, when the nacre is thick, the color seen through the transparent nacre appears blue, but when the nacre is thin, the pearl appears tan.

What is the size of the pearl?

Thanks for responding. Here is a profile of the ring.Blue pearl right side.jpg any idea of its value?

It is the size of a large mature green pea. I'm not sure how to describe it. Thanks. I know that it is a natural color. A lovely soft blue.

KitKhat, I moved a post for you and deleted a few other duplicate posts...let's try to keep all discussion about this pearl on this thread. :) It's easier to find them that way.
