Hello - There was a discussion on black FW necklaces in the past and you might want to check out this thread

https://www.pearl-guide.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2118.

I purchased a similar black FW 11-12mm baroque strand to the picture shown below. I love the strand so much that I choose my clothing just to get to wear the strand. The strand has brought lots of compliments. BTW, the photo below is from this thread https://www.pearl-guide.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2123.

Hi Jody,
Welcome to the forum
The difference in price in those pearls is due in some part to the differnce in sizes of the pearls. Overtones is a personal choice - me, I tend to love 'em all.....

Eeee, Spaceneedle, that necklace again.
I love it.

For those that have black fresh water pearls, I was looking for some advice. Please check out the two links from pearlparadise.com

There is a big cost difference between these two types of pearls. Any thoughts? The less expensive strand is treated, whereas the larger freshwater strand comes in 4 different overtones. Looking for opinions on the overtones. Thanks.

All black freshwater pearls are dyed. But then to go from 7 to 8 mm makes a big difference in price and even larger pearls are not easy to get at all. The Baroque strand with the huges pearls, owned by Speceneedle must be seen as a really rare size. She had very much luck to get it. The overtones are lovely and if there were round pearls in that size, they would be very expensive but normally no one would dye perfect round freshwaterpearls, this is usually done with pearls of poorer quality in their "natural" state.

Unfortunately, the strand shown in the photo belongs to PearlLove, not me. I wish it did . Mine is similar to it but more on purples and greens.

Oh, sorry Spaceneedle:(. Then PearlLove has something to be proud of....

Well, it's all dyed, the price difference is due to the size, whereas the overtones are different due to different dye recipes. It's really hard to get it right, and dyed high grade pearls are really hard to get. I'd be tempted to get all four if I weren't saving up for a tahitian strand.

Also, the smaller ones start at AA+, whereas the larger ones are AAA. This is a factor in the price difference as well.
