Hi,

I live in Beijing and am looking to buy a pearl ring as an anniversary present. I have just spent 3 hours somewhat overwhelmed on the 4th & 5th floor of the Beijing Pearl Market! I was amazed how much the prices varied for what seemed like similar products (simple white gold band with an 8mm fresh water pearl). Please could I have some recommendations as to which suppliers are most reliable and best value for money? Also, is it still acceptable to bargain hard on the 4th & 5th floor in the more upmarket stores such as Fanghua Pearls?

Not only is it acceptable to bargain hard, it's absolutely necessary to get a good deal at that market. Isn't Fanghua straight ahead just to the left and next to Ling Ling when you get to the 5th floor? If I recall, it's like a more upscale retailer in the middle of all the other wholesalers (more expensive than most). Ling Ling is good and fair.

You could also try Sharon's store on the 3rd floor as well as Sandy's pearls on the same floor too. They usually have a pretty good selection and please bargain hard.
