Hi, I have some Tahitians, some excellent, some good and some lousy but even the lousy which I do not design with have a very thick nacre (they are great as a reference). I have one 1/2 pearl that shows at least 2 to 3mm of nacre either side of the bead. Where Baroque even more nacre.

But what is the average nacre thickness of a Tahitian Pearl? And what is the minimum thickness either side of bead before it is okayed by Tahitian regulations?

My ignorance on Tahitian pearls horrifies me. I was recently told that .9mm to 1mm is the normal. Just wondering if this is correct. I had thought it was more than that!!

Guess I have been more into naturals, South Seas and of course being a seller Akoya.

Thanks all in anticipation.

Thanks Jeremy, I had thought it was thicker but very glad to know the true nacre thicknesses.
Obviously sometimes it gets a lot more from what I have seen. They just don't always have the quality to actually use.
