Are these rare? And how much would you suggest the value to be?

I have these pearls in a velvet 2 door box . It says Fred j. Dorn and felco pearls buffalo, ny on the inside right door. My mom says they were made in 1881. But would like to get further information.

Welcome, Your pearls sound very interesting. Please add some good photos of the pearls and the box with inscription. Take pics on a white paper towel and use the macro setting on your camera. Also good photo of the clasp.

I'd never heard of Felco pearls before this! Googling I found this cool ad for Felco imitation pearls:
