Hi i am currently at QATAR and would like to buy pearls from the PEARL SHOPS IN DOHA. Before i purchase them i would like to get some opinions on the quality of the pearls. As well how much do you think they are worth.

Those are cultured freshwater pearls of slightly better than average quality. They are probably way overpriced in Qatar and other Persian Gulf countries that allow sales of cultured pearls.

I am currently in Shanghai, and this display looks pretty much like the necklaces you see in every tourist store. Most of the pieces here could be purchased for around 30 or 40 dollars by the average tourist. They are, as Caitlin said, slightly better than average, and obviously there would be a premium on this price because of where you are.

Oooerr !!

Something strange is happening here. What it is ain't exactly clear....:)

I remember this thread from when it was started and there were a good few replies at the time.....

Oh, just saw the original date.... but that is strange, isn't it?

I could swear the same thing happened in a thread from the Natural Pearls section about abalone pearls.

Yes Borah and Nerida.
Same post, on three separate days running.....
Spooky, Skip.....

wow, you pay closer attention than I do, Sueki. I just thought "um, that looks more than familiar.."

I try, I try....:D

Now I have to go before I fall off the chair. ;)

yes, I was thinking that you must be past your bedtime...

I am moving ZE comments that can't be verified. I moved them, not deleted them. Then sometimes I have to keep the jist of a post.

sounds like hard work Caitlin. Your efforts for all the admin stuff you do (and I suspect we don't know half of it) are much appreciated. The integrity of the forum is important, it would just be nice if there was an easier way for you to do it!

Sheryl - I know, I know.. I just don't want to be a third graft pearl!!

Which abalone thread? I don't remember that- I need a jog for the memory.

There will be more changes. After 2 years and so many people reading inaccurate posts, no matter how witty/lofty. It is time to segregate the questionable posts. I will no doubt, come along and remove the off topic posts from this thread too.

I try to stay on top of the mean posts, too- and delete them ASAP. This forum is really for pearls and especially pearl education, not for gossip nor for negative comments about people. This place is unparalleled on the web. A no-nothing about pearls can actually become an expert by reading, looking at pictures, and asking questions.

Its also a good place to make pearl friends, esp. with PM's and emails, as many of us have done.

It was a fairly recent abalone thread started by a guy named antz. I think it's still on the first page of the Natural Pearls section. He was selling his collection.
