Hello, I was wondering if there is anyone in the bay area that would be able to provide an appraisal for this unique abalone pearl that I have?

Thank you!!!

I wish I knew. I could give you an approximate value if I had it in my hand, but I am no certified appraiser. You could probably show it to Sarah of @kojimapearl fame and maybe she could help you out since she lives there.

If it's a worked blister (previously attached to the shell), it's a rare novelty but doesn't hold a lot of value. It is a really cool looking piece - especially first shot in your palm. I could see a designer like @la_corsetiere (Sheri Jurnecka) doing something amazing with this.

Thanks for the mention @CortezPearls : I am not a professionally accredited appraiser.. but I did come by this GREAT resource that Renee Newman put together of a GIANT list of appraisers all over the US. Here is the link: http://www.reneenewman.com/appraisers.htm
@jshepherd : I thought this was a particularly interesting specimen, looked like a LOT of parasitic work that resulted in real natural ART!
