Hello

I?d very much like to wear earrings but since I?m allergic to silver and gold I can?t. I`ve been looking around for pearl earrings with titanium (Since I?ve heard that most people, even those that are allergic to many metals, can wear it.) but can?t seem to find any.

Now I?m wondering if you might suggest another solution? Or any company that sell titanium earrings?

I'm so glad you asked this question! Your allergy is not rare by any means. My own, dear, mother was allergic to precious metals. She could wear 18kt white gold and that was it. I don't know if she ever tried platinium. My sister-in-law is allergic to precious metals as well. She wears surgical steel and any pearls I knot for her :). Titanium is a good choice, but surgical and stainless steel are also options.

I might look up those materials.

And I agree, that allergy really isn?t rare. My mom have it as well.

Hej Mervione

Now for our other members: I just did recommend som of our online companies that deal in steel for earrings and the like.:)

There's a findings supplier in Melbourne who has Titanium hooks (Over The Rainbow) if you need the link I can post it. I almost bought some, but I was most drawn to the colours lol and wasn't sure they'd get much use; but she does have bronze tones as well. Course that's no good if you prefer studs.

I have the same annoying problem with sensitive ear piercings.

ReactiveMetals has a few models of studs and ear-wire, shepherd and French hoops. Steel and Niobium ones can be found, but IMO, Ti should be the one and only earring material 'cause of its (lack of) weight! ;)

I have never tried the anodized colors, so I cannot tell whether the colorful outer layers may have side-effects. Not likely to try them any time soon either, LOL!

Better known suppliers like Stuller and OttoFrei also carry some Ti findings...

The only annoying part about using Ti earring parts is that most interesting pearls come already set in something: taking them off posts is not one of my talents. You can definitely buy half drilled pearls though, and I'd bet that some companies would even accept your Ti findings to set pearls in them (if you are lucky!).

PS. most likely the allergy is not to gold but to some of the alloys used in jewelry. High carat gold might work for you as well as it does for me, although I am not sure how practical that choice is (softer, fragile as wire and heavy, hard to find in simpler designs w/o that post-modern rustic feel etc.)

Nickel sensitivity is common, and since gold and silver alloys usually contain nickel, it may seem that the person is sensitive to the gold or silver.

Simply Whispers is a brand of jewelry without nickel. Mostly they sell earrings, but there is some other jewelry as well. Their jewelry is either surgical steel, 24K gold over surgical steel, or precious metals without nickel.
