My apologies if this is not the board to post. I browsed all boards' names and couldn't find a better place.
So I recently got a WSS whose surface was partially damaged during drilling. Of course I can't throw it away. After some painstaking thinking, I finally decided to gild the damaged area using 24k gold.
I did some research and learned I should use adhesive size, then gold leaf, then probably I want to seal/coat it afterwards as I want to use it on a necklace and there will be a lot abrasion. But ...
1. Shall I seal the damaged surface first using some kind of primer? The damaged surface is very flat to naked eye and I prefer not to buy too many bottles that I won't need in future. If I have to, what primer would you recommend?
2. I learned the after seal may turn milky in 3 to 5 years. So, can it be easily removed (like using nail polish?) and the pearl remain fine so that I can redo the gilding?
3. If I'm not satisfied with the result of 1-layer gilding, is there anything particular I should pay attention to to do multiple layers? So far in my imagination multiple layers' is just repetitions of how 1 layer is done.
4. I also thought of using glitter-glue - it's for my own wear anyway, and I don't mind add something bling. But it won't last, will it? How about glue + glitter + seal coat?
I hope you don't feel my questions are weird. I guess this is not an everyday technique, and I would appreciate if anyone that has experience or knowledge doing this would share some advice or opinions.
