Hello All,

A friend and I were talking pearls and she shared a collection of 3 strands with me. She is wondering what kind they are. Any guesses?

Thanks.

Chinese freshwater pearls, all of them. The ones on the left are dyed to look like Tahitians. The dark strands in the multi-strand also look dyed. The peachy ones are probably naturally-colored.

PearlFlower,

Your friend has a good eye for pearls and lovely strands! As PD said, these are cultured freshwater pearls from China, with the dark pearls having been dyed. They have very good luster! Pearls like this are nucleated with a tiny piece of donor tissue, so they are all nacre. (There is no bead in the center.) How nice of her to let you photograph them and share with us.

I think you are right Wendy, in Indonesia in Bali Island there are some expert that make this pearl, they call it cuttingan, something that is cut.
i think what flower has is old system of dyed. now the improve better.

by the way, any one hear that know about gama (gamma) ?
