Heres a pic of a 12-16mm Australian Goods Parcel SRND 12-16mm.jpg

What does semi-round mean to you? Are they flat on the bottom, like button pearls? They're lovely.

I am being a newbie here... I thought that SSP were more creme coloured and not bluish, Would this hue make these pearls more or less unusual?

The image shows normal coloration for South Sea pearls from the silver lip Pinctada Maxima, most will be silvery white and "cooler" in appearance, cream and very slightly golden hues can occur in the silver lip but aren't common.

Of course the Golden lip variety will produce cream to deep golden pearls but those would be sold as "Golden South Sea Pearls"

Not only is it OK, it is needed- not just for you, but for many others who will read it later. :)

And that was a perfect answer, too.

Semi-round is the same as off-round, meaning that they aren't perfectly round, but appear to be round without a close inspection. When you roll them in a pearl tray, it will be obvious. But why pay more? :)

Thanks Blaire. Your answer prompted me to go back for a better look, and now I can see by the shadows that the pearls were plump not buttons.

Near-round is a better term than off-round. I've been soooo tired lately! :)
