Just thinking about this and wondering...... How would I tell if 70 years in a bank vault box had ruined these??? Would there be cracks or what???

Expanding my collection- what to choose?

As someone else on this forum said recently...Pearls are hot! That means that people who have not worn Grandma's pearls are looking to sell them...that also means scammers are out too. I would look at anything local (second hand, antique, auction houses, jewelers, etc.) that you can get too...

Can anyone identify the hallmark on my pearl necklaces that I bought recently?

Jewelers have metal stamps that they can put on clasps as a mark. I have not seen any like that. Tasaki 40-50's a long time ago did a T inside a shell...but has since changed.

Mike Brennan, Pearl.... Something or other

WOW... 3 months to string pearls correctly??? How on earth does Pattye ever sleep??????? By the way an easy vintage restringing job with pearls bead cups only took me 2 hours...(I had a 2 hour time frame...or I would not have known.)..... so either I got it all wrong or I am the fastest...

Help with Identification - Two Necklaces

The 14k clasp has a generic pearl clasp mark...I looked it up once...the company makes clasps. The 10k might have a jeweler's stamp...but those can be put on in store.

Are these pearl rings all freshwater or some of them Tahitian?

I agree with all that has been said...I'll add it really will depend on where you are selling. Mikimoto on facebook is listed over $1,000...but according to eBay solds sells at around $600-700. I had a huge freshwater "Wilma Flintstone" pearl necklace that i thought I would love...because it...

    Inherited Necklace

I have seen some of those amazing clasps...but it is really hard to tell where or when they were made. There seems to be some from around the 60's when people had more money in the US, post WWII and pearls were not a hard to get. My guess is that high end jewelers were able to get pearls and...

    Another identification 😀

Such bad photos. Dark pearls on a dark background skews the color and the light background is terrible lighting. I would ask for photos of the drill holes... Maybe they can get good enough ones to tell....but it is were me...I would pass on them...you can get better or at least better photos...

Please help me identity these pearls!

Yes, Faux. When I talk about looking at drill holes for paint build up or loss that is what I am talking about in that photo. Sometimes it is only 1-2 holes on a high quality strand. Saltwater pearls have less grit, but not as smooth as Faux. (It is easier and less eeewww to rub the 2 sides...

Curious your thoughts .. what kind ?

Thanks so much for this post! Many, many years ago when my mother was a teenager..she was able to go out to Catalina Island in CA on a diving boat. The divers got abalone and she, not only got to eat it, she got to keep the shell & it was in our bathroom for years! Sadly it was given away...
