I haven't been on for awhile as I am traveling but love the men in pearls posts. I ran into this young lad from Dublin who was actually my waiter in Paris and consented to a photo and was interested in Pearl Guide once I talked to him. Hope to see him on here.

I would definitely keep the seals and take lots of pictures of them and the pearls together, as that is your only proof of provenance if you have no paperwork. You might want to decide whether you want to spend the money to have them appraised by Mikimoto and also buy a clasp from them. This way...

It is hard to say-- it could be deco-like. It does look similar to styles I saw in the 80's, also. One way to tell would be to have the sapphires tested. Usually sapphires of the true deco period were synthetic. I agree with BWeaves. I would remove one pearl from each side of the clasp. I...

The only thing I will add to this discussion is that the gorgeous clasp on Hisano's double necklace appears to be from the Edwardian period-1901-1915. Obviously, the pearls could be older than that. And that is one stunning piece; pearls and clasp.

These all appear to be Japanese saltwater akoya pearls. #2 appears to have the sharpest luster. #1 possibly appears to have more pink overtones, at least in one photo. It also depends on her skin tone-- I personally don't look good in metallic, silver or very white overtones, I tend to do better...
