Gunze thread and my newly found hobby :)

Wow, both of those necklaces are GORGEOUS! What a marathon 82 inches must have been, and that rose clasp is perfection. I love mixing gemstone beads with pearls, and would have never thought of mixing GSSP with garnets! I'm inspired now.... did you find any issues stringing the hessonite? Were...

    DIY "Harvest" Strand

So I don't know if this is pearl sacrilege or not, but I finally finished a faux harvest strand today. I had so much fun putting this together! I used an assortment of keshi, drops, large circled tahitians, a half strand of small dark-bodied tahitians, weird baroques with pimples (the large...

    Tahitian on Etsy???

I agree with everything said so far, I've really enjoyed shopping with both companies since I got into collecting pearls a few months ago. I've purchased the most with Wen. I love my tahitian multicolor strand, and I'm pleased with the loose pearls and half-strand of circled tahitians I've...

Help please, thread strength for rosebud necklace

Thank you all for your replies! I think you all are right, I need more sizes of french wire. I'll stock up this week, and see if I can get a smaller size to fit through the ring. I tried squishing the french wire, JerseyPearl, and it ALMOST fit through. If not, I know I'll probably need a...

    October Tahitians

Thanks Pattye and PD! And I agree GemGeek, this is a fabulous way to 'share' pearls in a way. I'm really curious what everyone is getting this month. There was a really pretty tahitian necklace, baroque dark body with cherry/peacock. I hope someone on here bought it!

    October Tahitians

Sure! These were my "September Tahitians." I've been buying up loose strands and pearls, in retrospect I should have saved my money for one larger purchase when these October sales started up. But I'm having fun trying out all the types of pearls, and there's always next year! Here's a pic, I'll...

Help please, thread strength for rosebud necklace

I have one last question about this project if that's ok. I feel like as soon as I figure one aspect out, I encounter another problem. I have a feeling this is going to be happening frequently in the beginning. So I bought a cute silver clasp for this necklace, on close-out from Rio...

    365 Days of Pearls

This thread has been amazing! I've only been able to make it about 1/2-2/3 of the way through (but I cheated and looked at your last SS strand, WOW!) I feel this thread in particular has given be so much information about pearl fashion, from different types/lengths/sizes of jewelry, how to...

    October Tahitians

Nice pearls, Parrot Lady! I've bought some button/ringed tahitians from Wen, the were beautiful for the price. But I've never bought a full strand from PP, I'm sure once I see the quality I won't want anything else! So many bills due during the annual sale though :(

Help please, thread strength for rosebud necklace

Thanks so much for all of your advice! I'm going to start making the necklace in the next few days, waiting on a few supplies to come in from Rio Grande to finish another project first. Did you all know there's a difference between a bead reamer and a pearl reamer? Of course you did, I'm such a...

Help please, thread strength for rosebud necklace

That's a good point, MSC. So if a loop is attached but not soldered, do you just remove the loop and attach your necklace directly to the clasp? So far I've preferred clasps which come with loops, but I haven't looked closely to see if they're just jump rings squeezed shut.

Help please, thread strength for rosebud necklace

Thanks, MSC! I never thought about the clasp area being weak, are there any steps you know of to make it more secure? Or is this just always the weak point since its carrying all the weight of the necklace?

Help please, thread strength for rosebud necklace

Thanks for your reply, Pattye! I've loved using Beaders' Secret so far, it's great how the knot can be pulled into place. The moonstone beads are faceted rondelles, and slightly flattened. Some holes are smaller than others, and I am noticing some uneven edges on a few of them. I'm wondering now...

Help please, thread strength for rosebud necklace

Thank you so much, such great information! Yes I do have a Michael's, I'll take a few beads there and try it out. With your akoya/garnet necklace (the combo sounds interesting, btw!), are the garnet beads faceted or smooth? I'm wondering if stringing something like this on BS is best left for...

Help please, thread strength for rosebud necklace

Thanks, I'll see what she says. I bought the pearls from you, by the way. They're beautiful! Great color and very few flat spots, I've had a tough time finding rosebud pearls which are halfway decent. I'm considering clearing out the rest of your inventory later today, it's so hard to stop at...

Help please, thread strength for rosebud necklace

Thanks for the information, I'll look those up. I want to start learning how to string on beading wire, but have yet to tackle it. Did you find it was easy to pick up? I like the idea of silicone bumpers too, I've read in other posts they look very similar to knots. If you string pearls on...

Help please, thread strength for rosebud necklace

Good morning everyone! This is my first post to the forum, and I wanted to thank everyone first and foremost. I found a necklace belonging to my grandmother this past summer, a cute little faux pearl strand. It was in rough condition, so I started looking into jewelers to restring it. After...
