Nacre depth requirement scrapped from January

Pearl Dreams, that's true people buying low price pearls can't get the best quality, anyway. But now, without test, nobody will be able to know if a tahitian pearl has grown during three months or three years, for the same price, and moreover, perfectly spherical pearls, so much valuable at...

Is my golden south sea pearl dye?

You have a nice pearl! Its lustre is typically GSS' one. I love this shape, and natural colour variations make it alive.

Nacre depth requirement scrapped from January

Testing is free of charge for tahitian farmers who require it to authorities.

Nacre depth requirement scrapped from January

That's a good information, Jeremy, about Rikitea. Thank you for sharing. Maybe I am unlucky, but the last tahitian pearls I have received have not so much thick nacre than all others before. The last I have carved is between 0.5/0.6mm nacre thick, calliper measured... a lost work. So, I suspect...

Nacre depth requirement scrapped from January

As far as I know, the only carver to work with a specific farmer is Chi, from Galatea. That because its beads are special, but Chi needs also a very thick layer of nacre. All of that is possible in case of big productions, I can't ask anything similar according to my own very little use. I...

Nacre depth requirement scrapped from January

Akoya have never been regulated by depth law, instead tahitian pearls. The tahitian's market prices have been built on particular quality requirements they don't work, now. If it's a matter to pay what we get, tahitian pearls price would drop significantly. I can't understand how to sorry such...

Nacre depth requirement scrapped from January

Rule have changed since 16 of july 2017, but just I begin to see new pearls with thin nacre coming ( I am on the right place to know that): it's a shame! Even tahitian jewellers I know think like that themselves. Well, that's a disaster. Now, pearls certified up than 0.8mm thick nacre will be...

How can luster on photos be so high?

Good point, Amti. Price difference between 15 and 16mm is usually significant for a true SSP!

Can a Tahitian pearl be 7.2+ mm?

Just I have carved the first tahitian pearl I find with less than 0.8mm thick nacre: a disaster... What a sadness, to see how everything's quality is becoming lower, even in such prestigious scopes:(

How can luster on photos be so high?

You are right to doubt, I think: this pearl looks more like a white edison pearl, FWP, than a south sea... Did you look at @pearlzaustralia edison pearls, on Instagram, their size and lustre are very similar.

    Natural GSS

What I surprise me, first, it's this great coincidence for a wild oyster to receive the two factors required to build a pearl, a bead and a piece of foreigner tissue, that in the same time... Sure it's why natural pearls are so scarce, because if a simple grain of sand was suffisant to work, as...

Is this normal for South Seas Pendant?

Did you talk about the welding point between the three handles of the bail? Only one handle's metal has been allowed to be inserted in the pearl's hole, and this kind of setting can't hide the weld required for assembling the two other pieces of bail on this first handle.

Can a Tahitian pearl be 7.2+ mm?

Unfortunatly, rules have changed since july 17 (country law N° 2017-16). Now, tahitian pearls farmers can sell pearls with less than 0.8mm nacre thick. In order to work their own will, they can ask a legal expertise certificate (toll-free for them) to certify nacre is 0.8mm thick or more, but...
