    Pearl and Gemstones

Hi, nnguye20! Have you found your solution? I have made a tour of my own rock collection, to try a view for your jewel. Maybe a very little (present quartz is too much big, I feel) tip of amethyst crystal, angle towards back... But the best, in my mind, would be a little natural gold nugget...

    Cultivating or Freshwater?

Hi, georgesullivan, Most of pearls used to make jewelry are cultured, some in freshwater, produced by mussels, and others produced by oysters in saltwater. Thus, if you know it comes from freshwater, your pearl is a freshwater cultured one :)

Can you tell the thickness of the nacre of the SS pearls?

pearlescence, apple was just a picture, of course... But when I take the risk to carve a pearl which shows these fine wrinkles, with sharp angles, I know I will not go far.

Can you tell the thickness of the nacre of the SS pearls?

Just a last note, Twj : the tahitian pearl you are showing is one of this kind of pearls very interesting to carve, because nacre of this near button shape has usually not homogeneous colours, inside. A none appreciate pearl, at the first glance, but often full of promise for some jobs:)

Can you tell the thickness of the nacre of the SS pearls?

Twj, I would be glad to have helped you. Your thread has reminded a great problem about thickness of nacre! I have forgotten to tell when fine wrinkles are seen on round pearl's surface, as on yours in the middle of first pic, that's not a good sign about nacre thickness. It's easy to...

Can you tell the thickness of the nacre of the SS pearls?

Yes, pearlescence, I see what you mean about difference between translucent and transparent. I want to talk of translucency. I assure you that there are truly differences between kinds of pearls nacre. As I said, it's time to take care, specially with tahitian pearls. Did you imagine they have...

Can you tell the thickness of the nacre of the SS pearls?

So sorry, pearlescence, but I don't well understand. You are explaining that bead becomes visible through a very thin nacre layer, I agree you, and thus nacre is translucent. Now just I was pointed differences of this transparency between kinds of pearls.

Can you tell the thickness of the nacre of the SS pearls?

Yes Pearl Dreams, it might be dismaying, but I am explaining how such a thin nacre would damage pearl's looking, in case of tahitians. I think tahitian pearls nacre become enough opaque up to 0.3mm thick, to avoid any view of the bead. But I can speak of these 0.1/0.2mm thick nacre effects...

Tahitian pearls or dyed freshwater? - plz help

I agree you, BWeaves and Simply adorned. May I add that lustre of second pearls seems to me higher than any tahitian pearls. Only one time, I have found this special iridescent colour of oil on water effect inside a pearl, but never seen outside. That makes me think of metallic glass beads.

Can you tell the thickness of the nacre of the SS pearls?

pearlescence, each kind of pearl has its own nacre optical properties. Akoya's don't work like south sea's. Akoya's nacre, but also many FWP's (except Edison!), seem less translucent than SSP or tahitian pearls nacre.

Can you tell the thickness of the nacre of the SS pearls?

Tjw, from my little experience, I would doubt that first pearl on the left and specially the one in the middle of first pic have regular nacre thickness. We can see, above a kind of darker colour wave of nacre, a clearer area which makes me think of the bead, seen by transparency. But the only...

What to do with articles like this?

Your question is truly important, CrazyMissy, so much than it's difficult to answer. Just talking of press (social networks are/have a great problem deserving a special study, but interlinked with our subject), first, each country has its particular rule about newsmen/women accreditation. For...

    Black Sea Pearl from Indonesia

Yes, Simply adorned, glouglou shows fruits looking like lychees... It would be interesting to know if these "pearls" are hard, or making oil when heated a bit, because this way makes me think to some seeds of palms, which maybe can have a similar look when carved and dyed, greasy parts staying...

    Black Sea Pearl from Indonesia

If these objects have been dyed, colour has penetrated deeply between nacre layers. Strange, not seen on usual carved mother of pearl.... such a process would be more common use, looking at this effect.

    Black Sea Pearl from Indonesia

That looks like carved shell's mother of pearl, not true pearls. Never seen before: I don't know what specy of shell has been carved to do, but results are very nice!

Has anyone bought from simplyadorned4u on etsy?

You are right, nnguye20, ebay none etsy have to tell us what we love... but they are so much powerful to change our habits! As a buyer, their experimentation makes me to look for personal websites, now, and I have made the same path as seller. About advises on pieces of art, did you imagine the...

Has anyone bought from simplyadorned4u on etsy?

Hi nnguye20! As I have said, my opinion is not against your demand:), just that has made me to talk of what I am thinking. One of greatest difficulties, to buy pearls on the web, is coming we don't see them in real view, and any shooting, even the best, can't show the complexity of pearls...

Has anyone bought from simplyadorned4u on etsy?

So sorry, but I don't understand why to request an advise about a vendor who has already such great number of good points on Etsy... It's already enough to see how a seller's reputation is hanged to the people's moods, and so different feelings between purchasers, even to be vulnerable in front...
