Question regarding the metals in findings

Bluebyrd, about metals toxicity, zinc is one of the less toxic metals, but not valuable to make classic jewels. In contrast, nickel is very dangerous, especially because it is strongly allergenic. Nickel was used to protect the surface of old buttons' steel, watches, other usual things and also...

how to prevent "V" shape when wearing strands

lovely, I read your post and it makes me think of the manner to draw the best ceramics kiln vaults : we hang a metallic chain between two nails, and the parabolic shape of the chain gives us the reversed plan to built the vault. Then, if the chain is thin but heavy and nails close, parabolic...

Metallic Edison Peal Smash for Those Who Enjoy a Good Pearl Smash

Good question Pearl Dreams. I have read that freshwater pearls harvest is made when water is cold. Then, nacre has a better lustre. I don't believe farmers let to the chance the choice of good pearls to get or not. My opinion is they have found how to do mussels, and maybe oysters too, making...

Metallic Edison Peal Smash for Those Who Enjoy a Good Pearl Smash

Maybe you are right, Gemandpearlover, it's truly a question of day to harvest. I don't know how quickly the mussel produces conchyoline on its pearl, but perhaps even less than one day for such a thin layer to do this special enamel effect. More conchyoline would turn the pearl in strange tones...

Metallic Edison Peal Smash for Those Who Enjoy a Good Pearl Smash

Gemandpearlover, thank you for this brave experiment!:) Just a point: the nacre of this kind of nice pearls is often thick, but not metallic in all the thickness, just a few layers separated by more or less pale colour nacre. I think these pearls are produced by farmers watching carefully the...

We are stumped...South Sea Black Pearl or What

I agree Parrot Lady, it's a hematite. A manner to be sure is to strike a bit the back of this stone with a piece of quartz. If the (little) scratch looks red, it's a hematite

What colours do you think will be "in" for this year?

BWeaves, did you talk of the psychedelic music team? All my youth. Orange is not an usual pearl tone, I have one, flameball, but never found the second! Then, people which doesn't know pearls also doesn't believe this pearl is not dyed (But it's already true with golden pearls, in France :p)...

What colours do you think will be "in" for this year?

If we believe in news, living coral Pantone is the colour of the year 2019. A kind of strawberry ice cream colour, I feel... A very artificial tone, very unusual in Nature, in fact (the most similar I have seen is the colour of a kind of mushrooms). Not a good idea for us and our pearls!

Pearls worn during times of mourning

Dear friends. This thread sounds strangely in my ears. I am very sick. Maybe I will die soon. Nobody knows the future. But then, sure my wife will wear one of my pearls, and that will be my last, but also graceful, gift of the life.

What did the poor pearls do to deserve this?

That's a good idea, Katbran, but looking at these pearls, It does rather give the impression that not only are the ink welts printed on pearls, but some brilliant and clear varnish covers them, maybe also removed from the surface like you are explaining. Unfortunatly, we can't see them in our...

Thank you Pearl Dreams, so an interesting article!! Thus, we learn maybe why we often break our drills... This metallic pin to stick the piece of mantel on the bead!
