Pearls '94 was epic!

Given each stage of the process (and there are many), i can't imagine robotics ever being successfully used to undertake seeding/grafting. And if any part of the process WAS able to be potentially suitable for robotics, the overall process timeframe would largely increase which would then result...

And yet many other farmers haven't grafted as they can't get the technicians to the farm during lock down and quite a number of farmers are trying to sell or close. They are having trouble selling pearls, which means no cashflow which makes it tough to continue for some.

I wonder how many on-line vendors buy finished pieces ex China (which are sold to them as SSP's or Tahitians) but really don't understand what they're buying or how to distinguish from the real deal. So they source what they think are genuine but really don't know?

I'm a surfer and I regularly wear a pearl on leather a lot of the time. In and out of surf, water, shower, exercise etc. I haven't noticed this sort of wear although the drill holes do wear through rubbing against the leather. I've changed the leather to prevent 'accidents' though..

I’d say 3/4 pearl. Grown like a mabe but with a higher profile insert, then filled and capped in the same way as a mabe.

Carving a nucleus to result in a customised pearl isn’t easy. Not impossible but not easy. Cultured pearl farms aren’t exactly factories where you can simply punch out a widget when required on demand. We’ve custom made mabe nuclei inserts previously but naturally with these types of projects...

Are you referring to the light brownish colour ring of material just down from the bale? If so, I think that may not be glue but organic matter as secreted via the mantle tissue during the culture process.
