real or imitation pearl strand with an 18k gold clasp?

I had a Majorica strand (it was marked) and I was surprised that it was gritty (The Fish scale coating, maybe?).... lovely reflections....but too perfect.

South Seas Yellow or dyed freshwater?

These have a really interesting color and look really close to saltwater (including a lower grittiness). Clasp is 14k & I am a little surprised at the matching & graduation... as though they did not have enough big ones, yet the colors vary. Opinions on South Seas or freshwater? (Sorry about...

Hello" How can I distinguish between natural pearls and cultured pearls? Is it possible to know the country of origin through the shape of the pearl?

My humble opinion is Chinese freshwater, quickly drilled and not very expensive. Since China is the biggest producer by far of freshwater pearls... There also seemed to be a time when "natural" shaped (Called "baroque, potato, off-round," etc) cultured freshwater pearls was a big fashion trend...

Multi-Strand (3 or more) Necklace Challenge!

It is done!!! Thanks BWeaves & Pattye!!! It was really tricky, but taught me so much. It is exactly what I wanted. I used the stringing both strands on 1 thread, then going back thru (With Pattye's tiny needles) and did the knotting. I really had to use math for the knots and do both...

Mabe I can tell if they are real

They have a weird coating, which is probably why they are NOT gritty. I can't see the color variations like in natural shell. Learning tax.

Mabe I can tell if they are real

I think all my other "Mabes" are actually Button pearls and they are gritty. I can't tell about these. The bottom of these are shell, but the top is NOT gritty and wierdly uniform. (There is some variation at the bottoms.). Are Mabe pearls gritty? (I would think so, even Tahitians are lightly...

Multi-Strand (3 or more) Necklace Challenge!

I was thinking of the 3rd way now that I have tiny needles. I am still pulling 3 thread thru...But I think I can make it. I am not exactly sure about the other end, because I don't know exactly how long it is going to be... But I I have some ideas how to get it to work. If I get stuck I'll...

Multi-Strand (3 or more) Necklace Challenge!

How? Do you put it all on 1 thread, then go back thru with another single thread? How to you do the ends? (Was that from the tutorial here on the forum?) I have not tried it that way, but now I have super tiny needles from Pattye...I think I can.

Multi-Strand (3 or more) Necklace Challenge!

I figured out what is going wrong... I have trouble keeping the 2 stands & the pearls that go on them in the right order. I tried marking the needle with marker, but it wore off quickly. (3 time restringing....). Any tips on marking which is which so I keep the right pearls on the right strand?

How to arrange these vintage pearls?

BWeaves...these are the add-a-pearl from the 1940's-50's. It seems as you had them restrung each year to be suspended between a chain or put on a new wire each year between a chain... I have seen them both ways. I think I have enough for graduated...I'll have to see. (I am sure I have extra...

Multi-Strand (3 or more) Necklace Challenge!

Thank you both! These are old button/flat pearls stacked next to each other. They look great next to each other, but knots seemed to show that they were not perfectly flat nor button, but lumpy. (They were originally on a fabulous gold clasp, but it really needed 3 and only had 2....also way...

How to arrange these vintage pearls?

Multi-Strand (3 or more) Necklace Challenge!

I know this is an old thread....but I am needing to restring a multi-layered necklace and add 2 more inches to each strand. Is there a good way to design multi-layer on a bead board? I tried knots and did not like it. I tried bigger pearls. I think a combination is best...but any good way to...

How to arrange these vintage pearls?

I just got this lot of vintage Deltah cultured pearls (guessing the 1940-50's) and would love the best ideas to arrange them. There are 52 pearls, but several are less than 2mm!

    Did I find $25 Mikimotos?

Photos??? Some people don't want "old junk" and some people love vintage & antique pieces...so the demand varies. I at a sale & bought a 14k gold chain for $10 (worth $100) but they wanted $50 for Marvella imitation pearl necklace with paint peeling. At another place, I was able to get a...
