    Information on Baroque Pearl Necklace

The thread will be cut away and replaced with new thread, so don't worry about its getting clean enough. When you restring them, if you like, you can choose another clasp. Or use the same one. You can also omit the pearls that are in the worst condition, if you like. Or rearrange them so the...

Help me identify these pearl necklaces and the estimated price

The black ones are baroque dyed freshwater pearls from Chna. These are inexpensive pearls; if the clasp is gold that would raise the value, as gold is so expensive these days. The white strand, I cant tell from the photo if they are fully round-- are they? It could be camera distortion but in...

    Information on Baroque Pearl Necklace

Great job answering the questions! They are baroque akoya pearls! You can see the bead inside one of them where the nacre is missing. The stone could be onyx. Clasp is 14K gold by its markings; gold used to be much less costly so I don't doubt it. Given the relative cost of gold now vs. those...

    What are they...50's - 60's

Thick nacre does not guarantee luster. And women like round pearls! My guess-- round akoya pearls were more generally desired/desirable then as now, and thus were more valuable than baroque pearls then as now.

    Beach pearl

You posted this before in another thread. We do not see a pearl, only a shell. This is the other thread: https://www.pearl-guide.com/threads/found-a-pearl.462632/

Where to buy freshwater pearls and freshwater pearl quality

Not solid nacre-- they look to me like bead nucleated freshwater pearls.

    Beautiful blues?

The brownish matter that appears blue through the layers of clear nacre is exuded by the gonad when it is cut open to insert the bead. It coats the nucleus, and the clear nacre is laid over it. If the nacre is thin, the pearl will look tan instead of bluish.

Is "3.5 momme necklace" a name specific to "those" necklaces?

Interesting question. I don't know the answer, but am curious about how you know it was made in the USA?

Need help with this pearl necklace

Those eggy shapes drilled perpendicular to the long diameter are dead giveaway for freshwaters.

    Pearl necklace help

Interesting! I did not know that. I have to admit the oxidized look is not for me, but I can see why some would like it.

    Pearl necklace help

Hi and welcome to Pearl Guide! They are dyed freshwater pearls from China. Freshwater pearls don't come in that color naturally. These are inexpensive pearls, but the silver flower is gorgeous! How do you plan to get the tarnish off?

Any value to these? Uncultured vintage possibly?

To me they look like baroque freshwater pearls from China. They are cultured, but instead of a bead inside to make them round, a bit of mantle tissue was used. If that is the case, they do not have a high value, other than sentimental. Mind you if they are natural pearls they would be...

Found pearls in my childhood room

Hi and welcome to Pearl Guide! They are real, cultured freshwater pearls from China. Unfortunately baroque freshwater pearls are the most common pearls out there, and those are low quality. The clasp appears to be base metal and the clear beads and split ring are also low end. But you say you...

    typical mom's pearls inquiry

Welcome to Pearl Guide! I have the distinct impression that both necklaces are imitation pearls. The way they are finished (the way they attach to the clasp) is low end. The pearls themselves are very uniform in size, color, luster, lack of overtones...all of which tend to be true of imitations...
