    Tahitian? Or freshwater? Cairnspearls58, beware

I have been there and will probably be moving again in a couple of years. Pearls can wait--for a little while anyway. But a nice freshwater strand might hold you over for a while if you need a fix for the addiction. :-)

    Need help with rondelle sizing

Thanks guys, I guess if I go with 4 or 5mm, and keep the necklace at 17 inches, that might leave me enough extra length to take some pearls off the strand for a matching bracelet. Now I have to see if I can find rondelles that will work.

    Need help with rondelle sizing

I love this mikimoto design for a lariat necklace: I am getting a similarly sized Tahital strand and I might want to do something similar, but without the lariat--since I don't think I have the length. The pearls are 11mm, what size do you think these diamond rondelles are??? For stringing...

    Tahitian? Or freshwater? Cairnspearls58, beware

I don't know this dealer--but 15-17mm tahitian are extremely rare. You're right about 3rd seedings having lower luster, but if you find a strand that is that big and does have excellent luster, $30k probably isn't an unreasonable price at all. However, if I were going to spend $30k on a strand...

What kind of metal do you prefer for your pearl findings?

    Hopefully it's working now.

What kind of metal do you prefer for your pearl findings?

    A. jones, That's unusual because they use a lot of nickel, zinc and silver in the US. That sounds like a lot of palladium which is more expensive than gold--at least I think so. With gold prices exceeding platinum, that could be different today. I don't recall seeing non-plated white gold in...

Oops. It wasn't enabled, but now it is.

What kind of metal do you prefer for your pearl findings?

Pearl Dreams--can you post a picture of the ring when you have a chance. That's sounds really pretty. I am new to pearls, but I have been collecting gemstones (particularly rough gem stones) for longer than I care to recall. It's really hard to find mogok rubies that aren't fractured filled...

What kind of metal do you prefer for your pearl findings?

I am sorry if I am a bit off topic. I have no experience with beading, but i am designing a necklace for my wife. The necklace is an off round, 9-11mm peacock Tahitian. I have not seen the pearls yet but from they appear to be nice quality, although not entirely blemish free. I am trying to...

    HinsonGayle Freeform Haven't these before???

I am not sure that I am even interested in buying them, but I thought they looked cool. Btw, they were being sold with free 2 day shipping and a 20% off coupon for those interested. That does change the price considerably--at least until V-day. Anyway, I am not buying anything right now--at...

    HinsonGayle Freeform Haven't these before???

That's interesting because the website specifically stated that they were both irradiated and not dyed and both are described as being baroque free formed pearls (which certainly means the second strand isn't bead nucleated)--although that's what it looks like to me based on a quick google...

    HinsonGayle Freeform Haven't these before???

Hey y'all: I was looking Amazon and came across pearls from a company Hinson Gayle (HGPearls). They have a number of FW free form strands at varying price points. The pearls have been irradiated which seems to give them really interesting colors. The price points seem reasonable. Has...

This isn't deep gold, is it?

No, I didn't take that photo. I am not that good of a photographer. :) My wife wishes she had those so I could take the photo though. That strand and photo is on American Pearl's website, listed for $28,000.00. Any takers??? :) Edited to add: The earrings are an extra $4,400. I am no...

    Do real men wear pearls?

I am wear a Tahitian pearl on leather necklace that bought in Tahiti. I also have Tahitian baroque cufflinks that I bought from PP last month. I also have a pair of vintage mikimoto cufflinks circa 1954, but i don't wear those often. I don't know any other guys that wear pearls, but it's nice...

This isn't deep gold, is it?

I am a bit late to this party, but I have been told by a couple of vendors that in their experience golden SS with "deep gold" tend to have less luster than light and medium gold pearls--more of a satin finish than glossy. This isn't always the case, but there is a significant premium for "deep...

Do Golden South Sea pearls have overtones?

Artpearl, I think you're making the right decision shopping online. I am with you on the golds as well. I do think the whites are gorgeous, but you can find other large white pearls--including fresh waters costing much less--that, although, not SS pearls, do offer a very similar look...

Akoya studs for my 7month old--what size??

My little baby girl was born in June. She just had her ears pierced and I wanted to get her little akoya studs for valentine's day. The smallest size most online merchants carry is 6mm. Will they look ridiculously big in her ears?

Looking to purchase ss golden pearl necklace

You're right Alex. I happen to like the strand quite a bit, but I would be reluctant to buy it because I am not sure how my wife would feel about the shape. Obviously I could return if she didn't like it, but I prefer not to have to do that if it can be avoided. What color should I be...
