Thank you Caitlin for being so diligent as always - would have loved to been at that talk and apparently the Pearl exchange is planning a few more seminars - if they do one I'll make sure to take some notes and post them here as I am behind in my pearl homework already.:p

    Gulf Natural Pearls

You are in luck as their office is in the same business park as my office (DAFZA) which is beside Terminal 2 on the North of Dubai - handy if you are planning to fly in and out again - best hotel close by would be the Park Hyatt (amazing golf course) or stay Downtown at the Palace Dubai (my...

    Natural Pearls, Basra?

Again Caitlin makes a good argument here as testing in the Bahrain lab ranges from USD$100 upwards for certification per pearl so that would be a lot of money for all the pearls you have there. Main thing is find out as much information as possible and take it from there.

    Natural Pearls, Basra?

11mm pearls in a pinctada radiata is enormous. Caitlin is correct here as even the new breed of cultured pearls don't come anywhere near that size - biggest they had on offer was 7.5mm - 8mm and they were extremely expensive Interesting little creatures the Pintada radiata...

    Natural Pearls, Basra?

Amazing thread and can't wait to discover what these pearls are! Maybe our pearl dealer in Bur Dubai (whom had the natural pearls that I saw - some of which were 70 years old) might be able to help (without smashing them if they were Chinese!!). He was a very decent guy and extremely well known...

Happy to report my mother adored her pearls for her 60th birthday and brought back many happy memories of when she was a girl playing with her mum's pearls so mission accomplished. I've still very got much the pearl fever and look forward to exploring more into this fascinating world. Just a...
