    Vintage freshwater necklace?

Ooh, I'm excited now! The largest measures roughly (calipers are at work!) 5x7mm, the smallest 2 x2.5mm. The clasp is marked STG silver and has lost all its marcasite/paste. Some of the pearls have ridges. Ive taken some pics with flas and some without.

    Vintage freshwater necklace?

Pattye...it's only 15 inches long, which explains why I've not worn it :-( although, it does work as a bracelet.

    Vintage freshwater necklace?

PearlDreams...thank you for yr thoughts :-) I've had them maybe ten years, but bought them secondhand. The clasp is maybe 40s/50s? Also three row graduated necklaces were really popular back then, so that's what I'm thinking about their age.

    Vintage freshwater necklace?

Hello fellow pearlers! I've had this little necklace for a while, I suppose it is freshwater pearls, on a silver clasp, but I think they are quite unusual as I've not seen many graduated fw necklaces. Also they are pretty smooth...in summary, I can't make them out...does anyone see any clues?

Turning a pin into a pendant?

How about trying it as it is...and putting one of those tiny rubber backs you get on cheap earrings over the sharp point of the pin? It's a lovely piece, I'm quite envious...the contrast between curves and sharp lines is sooo pleasing! Have you tried wearing it as a brooch...you might find that...

Any idea on what type of pearl ring I have?

Intriguing! I like the design...I agree, from these pics, they look like ros?-cut diamonds. I'd say also, they setting looks darker, like oxidised silver. Pics from the side would be good :-) ...any marks on the outside/back?

Well, I finally look a few more pics...of the pendant....I'm not sure what the candled pic tells me? And I also tried candling the brooch (which has now become my profile pic) ....any ideas anyone?

Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau and Art Deco

Wow, Paul...they're beautiful pieces. Good to see the backs, it sounds silly, but it's almost the first thing I look at if I'm thinking of buying a piece. Love the way the turquoise one is linked through :-) Helen

Nora, they're lovely! My tip, at markets or fairs, if you see something you're interested in...don't go for that first...test the water with other items...cheeky, I know ;-)

    My collection of antique pearls...

Lagoonislandpearls, thank you for yr insights...had a little try at candling, but not with great success (need at least two pairs of hands!) but, i think the earrings show a centre to them. I'm going to try and put together a similar candling box arrangement to that suggested in yr thread. This...

    My collection of antique pearls...

Kiwipaul and LitGeek, thank you for your comments...I assume the seed pearl necklace is strung on silk, and I've just had a look...it seems to be in good order. I was always told that the oils in our skin are good for pearls, so maybe after being kept soooo carefully for soooo many years it...

    My collection of antique pearls...

Pattye Thanks for yr reply :-) The pearls on the ears are q creamy, but praps more like the first pic. Maybe they are freshwater? I've been reading up about candling, and I'm going to try it on some of them, to see how it works... I work with vintage and antique pearls daily, and dream of...

    My collection of antique pearls...

Here are the earrings I'm particularly fond of...and curious about! They are set in 18ct yellow gold and silver (no marks, but tested), with handmade fittings...I've only once before seen similar mounts. Teeny rose cut Diamonds to the top...bouton shaped pearls are mounted on curved custom made...
