New (for me) Ebay Sellers to Evaluate

I have to say I have bought from Auction Pearls and they are gorgeous (peacock Tahitians). Great price too (would not have been able to afford such a nice strand from another shop). She sent me lots more photos when I asked for them and always returned my emails promptly. Why buy from ebay? Cost!

Sorry, couldn't remember what it was called - the "Other Stuff" area may be where that thread was.......

One that got away on eBay recently

Does it show my na?vet? that I am shocked at some of these practices? Lol. It has honestly never occurred to me to make an offer on an auction that didn't already HAVE a best offer option. I DO snipe though, wouldn't win anything if I didn't - good to know about putting in a token bid first...

    Drilling Natural Pearls By Hand?

It's amazing the accuracy they can achieve with those tools!

I think there is a thread in the "other section" where a few people have posted about going. Wish I were there! Sounds amazing!

    Natural Pteria Sterna UV Photos

Good point (the subtle variation in colours in naturals vs uniformity of colour in cultured). Seems a UV light could be a lower cost, handy tool for making a determination between natural and cultured before resorting to costly X-rays (if it suggests the pearls are cultured, don't bother with...

I looked at my natural Mississippi pearls and they were neon green, but it was quite similiar to some cultured Akoyas I have to, so I don't think it can be used as an identifier...... Shall I post photos when I get them?

    Natural Pteria Sterna Strand

I don't have much for making "franken-projects" in my jewelry box but I do try to find vintage, used, or "for repurposing" items first before I go for new. Not even as an enviro thing - cost and quality seems to be better (and uniqueness). I'll check out Riogrande though, thanks so much!

Antique Natural Basra Strand on Ebay

I'm sure those of us who troll Ebay have seen this lovely necklace currently up for grabs...... I just wondered about the colour of the pearls. Do you think it's just VERY dirty and yellowed? Or could they be Basra pearls and be that golden colour...

    M. STERN Natural Pearls

Yowza! That is just SO lovely....... Thanks so much for the info. Can't wait for the photo shoot! I've seen some small P penguin pearls on ebay lately, was going to try to grab one or two just for fun......

    Natural Pteria Sterna Strand

Just when I have decided what I want to do! Lol. Love your shop Andrea! That Georgian ring is amazing! (but I'm really eyeing that anatomical heart!) Well, tragically, the bead store that is literally in the next block from my apartment burned down a few weeks ago (huge fire, destroyed...

    Natural Pteria Sterna UV Photos

I thought I should start a new thread for the UV pics so they would be easy to find in case anyone is researching UV light and pearls at any point. So....... I received my UV flashlight (bathroom is HORRIFYING, germaphobes should NOT own one of these things!). They are red as to be expected...

Thanks so much everyone! (shots are edited so double chin doesn't show, lol). Yes, these are going to be my new "babies"! I tried a doubled up piece of the 5lb power pro today (just in my hands), yes, it does snap very easily. Good thing my cousin is a fisherman! (Amazon sent me two rolls...

    Natural Pteria Sterna Strand

Well thanks to everyone for their input once again! You always amaze me with not only your extensive knowledge, but your passion about pearls. Here are neck shots and seeing them like this I must agree - simple is better for these puppies. This will be my "never take it off necklace"...

    Natural Pteria Sterna Strand

Oh wonderful! That makes me happy! I had been eyeing them for so long, they just have "the look" of what I personally love so much about pearls. I am currently torn between "simple straight strand" or long (say, 42 inch) SOMETHING with coloured string or whatnot. I wear my loooong Tahitians...

    Are these Biwa pearls?

Here is the strand on Sarah's website....... http://kojimapearl.myshopify.com/products/two-strand-nested-vintage-japan-biwa-pearl-necklace Again, not what I thought Biwa's looked like....... I had the longer, more square shape in my head, almost like little pieces of bark..... I like all these...
