Need tips on Cleaning Tahitian pearls after removal from oyster

Llcraig2011: I am not debating wether or not these oysters are being killed humanly or not, it is the reason behind killing these oysters that makes me so upset. They are not being killed for food, but to amuse people (and let's be honest: also to trick people into paying a lot of money for...

    Opinions Please- Ugly pearl warning

Sounds like a good plan! I'm looking forward to see how it goes. And if you still don't like them, don't feel guilty. Pearl Dreams is right, someone will love them and it sure doesn't have to be you! I have sold and donated many pieces of jewelry that just didn't work for me, even pieces that I...

:o Why not restring them and mix them up with some nice beads or Swarovski crystals? Maybe adding some contrasting color or some sparkle might give them a whole new feel. I sure think this dog deserve to be adopted and loved, just give him a bath and a haircut first and he will look great! ;)

    Opinions Please- Ugly pearl warning

I am by no means an expert, but it looks like if there are some dark spots and some darker areas around the drill holes which could indicate that they have been dyed

Need tips on Cleaning Tahitian pearls after removal from oyster

I really dislike this sort of cruelty towards living things, just for "the fun of it". And on top of this they use harmful chemicals. I don't mean to be rude to you since you clearly didn't know about all off this when you bought those oysters in the first place, but now that you do know -...

A question about dyed or color treated pearls!

It looks like dyed akoyas are often nicer then dyed freshwaters, but I think I would end up selling any dyed pearls in the long run so I will try to avoid buying them in the first place. Naturally colored ones are just so beautiful, it's a piece of mother natures magic :)

    Help with these pearls?

Looks like the receipt says "general pearl choker" so it was probably a very short strand. I own a pearl necklace from 1933, it is made of akoyas and has a 18k clasp. I'm sure it was quite expensive back then, even though the pearls are small and graduated.

Need tips on Cleaning Tahitian pearls after removal from oyster

I am thinking it would be helpful if you posted a picture of your pearls (both the dirty ones and the one you managed to clean). Then it is much easier for people here to understand exactly what you are talking about. I must admit that I am also a bit curious as to why you're going through all...

That's a great photo and I totally agree on those big bracelets. She could have done without those (and maybe added some more pearls instead ;))

Combining pearls with watches.. would like some fashion advice!

This is so true. I am just a bit lazy and rely to much on my phone so I've lost the habit of wearing my watch every day, and now I'm trying to get back to wearing it regularly. I have a tendency to think of my watch as a piece of jewelry or an accessory, but I will try to think of it as a...

A question about dyed or color treated pearls!

BWeaves: Thanks! I knew about the black colored akoyas being dyed. Having only seen them in pictures, I think they often seem to have low luster and I agree that real Tahitians look superior in every way.
