For me personally, importing from abroad is worth every penny even after adding shipping handling fees and import duties. I recently opened an account with FedEx for ease of handling the invoices, as I buy and import Hawaiian shirts from Jamsworld regularly, and FedEx usually sends the invoice...

Concur with Katbran re: shipping charges and import duties when purchasing any high end jewellery from abroad, however, it is still worth it IMHO, and I have not bought anything locally in the UK since I discovered the joy of internet shopping in the late 1990's. DK :)

Buy once and buy the best, only if life is that easy for jewellery or otherwise. I too went through a phase of spending less on each piece of jewellery in the hope of buying more. However, it is false economy in the end for reasons that the others have mentioned. I have a pearl jewellery...

I guess it has its use, e.g. for someone who is new to beading and find it difficult to pull the thread and keep it tight in one hand while sliding a needle out of the loop with the other. DK :)

I would describe my 10mm PP Tahitians as medium grey body colour with a very light peacock overtone. With my big fat earlobes, I can wear larger pearls such as my 12mm Tahitians and do not find them weighty. However, I have stopped wearing them as they make my already fat wide face look even...

Third one from the right, as it appears to be the smallest to me. DK :)

IMHO, they are dyed cultured fresh water pearls, judging by the shape and colour. Not sure about value as there is no mention of the size of the pearls, sorry. Hopefully the experts will come along soon to offer their advice. DK :)

My bad in that I did not recognise the tiara DoC was wearing is her family's tiara, as in the Cubitt-Shand tiara, and she wore it for her first wedding. DK :)
