SS = South Sea Pearls. They are large, and usually white / silver / golden. And pricey. The jewellery itself isn't my style, either, but it's pretty. What sort of price range are the pearls? Or is the price only known to you in relation to the finished necklaces etc, including all the gold...

I'd dispute the "always" myself I'd be a bit irritated if my dearly beloved (or anyone else) spent ?600 on Mikimoto pearls for me. Because I'd see it as shoving handfuls of bank notes down the nearest drain.

I don't really go for white pearls myself - the only ones I have are a 100 inch freshwater rope. I do wear pearls most of the time - either my tahitian baroques, or lavender freshwaters. I think I'd find SS pearls a bit big for me; my lavender freshwaters are 7mm to 8mm, and my Tahitians are...

Speaking for myself, I have no problem with, say, old clasp and new pearls, so long as it's really clear to everyone that's what it is. So, for example, an ebay listing which said: "This necklace is made from modern, 6mm AA grade round Akoya pearls with a Victorian 9-carat gold clasp" would...

The stringing is odd, too. I realise it's a 3 strand clasp on a 2 strand necklace, but if you look at the clasp photo, on one side of the clasp the top string has 2 clasp hooks attached, and on the other side, the bottom strand does. Not even matching. Are they blue-grey akoyas?
