Natural and cultured pearls at famous Paris XXVI? Biennale

I'd call them lilac, or lavender, depending on the shade

I want a specific product for a specific date to the UK and can't find it.

Bear in mind the possible customs charge when ordering from outside the EU, when thinking about your budget.

Small size of Akoya Pearls in Shortage

I followed some of their links to retailers, and found this statement too: "Exclusive to Percy Marks in New South Wales and grown in the pristine Brisbane waters north of Sydney, these magnificent Akoya pearls are the result of 10 years painstaking research and development. Unlike the pearls...

    Jewelry making supplies

As I understand it, it's more of a sensitivity than an allergy, strictly speaking. Initial sensitisation (often through jewellery) means that any nickel-containing items you touch later can give you contact demititis (sp? skin irritation, anyway).

    Jewelry making supplies

The rules are pretty strict, too. Here's what the Birmingham Assay Office has to say about it: http://www.theassayoffice.co.uk/supply_chain.html

Wendy's right - you're in the UK, aren't you? So importing US sterling silver can be very iffy, as they don't have the rules against nickel in their alloys that we have here.

    Are these AA quality tahitians?

As I understand it, tahitian pearls must have a minimum nacre thickness of 0.8mm in order to be kosher - they are not legal for export, otherwise. So if there is a nacre dent showing the bead, they are illegals. Not a question of AA v A or whatever - but illegal pearls altogether.

more inherited pearls from Grandma - natural black pearls?

I agree with everyone else - they are absolutely lovely. I, too, don't have much time for the perfect round white pearls, too boring for me.

Are there naturally grey freshwater pearls?

I think they're all absolutely lovely. I adore Tahitians, and am not that keen on Akoyas - not the white, round ones, anyway. That baroque set is beautiful, though, and I'd probably go for that one.

Which strand should I get? (Urgent advice needed)

They are really lovely pearls, and look very round to me in the photos. The length looks good on you too, I reckon.

Using Olive Oil on White Pearls

You can use olive oil to clean Roman coins. If you have coins with a couple of thousand years' worth of dirt and general grunge on them, soaking them in olive oil for 6 to 18 months helps get it off without ruining the coins.

Trade secrets: Pearl farming techniques are kept under wraps

I used to say something very similar about the red book on bringing up children the health visitor read. It set out the amount of sleep children need at different ages from birth to 10 years old. Sadly, Isaac hadn't read the damn book, and therefore thought he needed a lot less sleep! Still...
