    Now that's an entrance

As always, of course. She doesn't appear to consider herself dressed without them.

What a massive house! The architectural style is interesting. Looks like the hybrid offspring of a 1930s mock-tudor house (mostly on the right) and a Norman Church, with a random balcony chucked in by a distant ancestor.....

Who are the people? I want to know. I see some lovely pearls, and some even lovelier and more interesting people talking about them!

Does PNG have a pearl industry?

Don't they have a nasty habit of eating people there?

    $40,800 Freshies.

I'd really dislike having a necklace taht cost so much money. I'd worry about it, rather than enjoy it!

Found mysterious possible pearl help ?

An 8 gram natural round pearl over 2 cm in size is vanishingly unlikely.

Thanks! She lived to a ripe old age, so both my uncle and my mother knew her well, and of course my Granny (her granddaughter).

Found mysterious possible pearl help ?

Glass can get really smoothed by the action of the sea, over time. Personally, I think it can be absolutely beautiful. The scratches on this one make me think "glass", too.

    100 Inch Rope Challenge!!

I wasn't a part of the challenge, but I do have a 100 inch rope which I adore wearing, it makes me feel like a 1920s flapper, without the unflattering haircut. Here is mine, wrapped several times around my 6 year old son, Isaac, and me, and on its own:

    100 Inch Rope Challenge!!

I adore the rope look, so all credit to you for helping re-establish it! And you get to sing the "I was right" song.

    Pearl diver dies in Broome

Coroners were established in 1194 in England, during the reign of Richard the Lionheart. It was partly a money-raising device, partly a way of circumventing often corrupt local sheriffs. They not only dealt with deaths, but also rapes, arson, treasure trove, and other things like whales and...

    Yokota Pearls

the history looks a bit iffy to me - I thought the round pearl matter and the cases in London were post First World War, not in 1912. I could be wrong. But I have access to an excellent law library to check it!

    Utterly lovely Victorian seed-pearl necklace

If you want to know more about her, including her respectable upper-working-class background, marriage to a travelling actor (the horror!) etc, I wrote an article about it, ages ago: http://londongirl.hubpages.com/hub/The-sinking-of-the-Lusitania-A-survivors-story#

    Utterly lovely Victorian seed-pearl necklace

At my parents' home is a photo of my mother, aged about 6, with her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, 4 generations in the ascending maternal line. My Granny (my mother's mother) is the tallest by half a head in the photo. She looks positively giant like! Which makes it very odd...
