    Pictures or it didn't happen....

Thanks everyone! I ended up giving this strand to my Mother. I have another strand of more traditional baroques, just a little better luster and less pond slime. I'm going to make myself another one....

    Pictures or it didn't happen....

Here is my second knotting project. These photos are with my phone, my camera does an even worse job. The pond slime is not as pronounced in person as it is in these photos. The mother of pearl goldfish matches better as well. Just wanted to show them to somebody!!!!

    Opinions wanted!!!

Thanks Pattye!! I have told hubby even if they DID agree to sell them now for $800, I don't want them. They are large, but not pretty. I told him to think of it as a huge gemstone that is poorly cut and has lots of inclusions (he collects gemstones.) It might be large, but it isn't pretty...

    Opinions wanted!!!

Jeremy: Thank you!! I can now show those photos to hubby and I think he will see what I have been trying to tell him about this strand. I think that both he and our friend are somewhat caught up in the size of these pearls. Yes, they are large. But they are not pretty. The pearl on the...

    Opinions wanted!!!

Let me start this off by saying that I do not have photos of the necklace of which I am about to inquire and no longer have access to the necklace to take any, I am just asking some general questions because I know there is a lot of knowledge here and I would like to hear some opinions!! If...

I Finally Taught Myself to Knot!!!

Thanks everyone!! I did watch Caitlin on Youtube!!! It is very empowering to finally do it, and see that I CAN do it!! Now I am cutting up the old strands on wire and getting ready to rework. I have some large peanut pearls laid out right now, with a carved mother of pearl goldfish...

I Finally Taught Myself to Knot!!!

Well, Youtube had a hand in it!!! I've been stringing pearls on beading wire for a while. I had the silk sitting there, but was too afraid to try my hand! This weekend I broke down and decided I would try making a knotted rope with some largish FW pearls I bought from Majestic Pearl at a...

    Tahitian Stretch Bracelets

I use Hypo cement on the knots on mine. I have made bead bracelets on Stretch Magic for quite a while, and not had any problems. And I have at least one with HEAVY agate beads on it. The only issue I have had is on a double strand bracelet where one strand appears to have grown a little. It...

    My Keshis

Sandra: I'm pretty new here too, but I can tell you there are several folks here on PG that sell the type of pearls you are looking for, at fair prices! I have seen several strands I would LOVE to buy!!! Look around in some of the posts, folks have their web addresses in their sig lines. I...

    Where to restring in NYC?

I'm in the midst of that now! I've been a "beader" for a while (and a knitter forever!) so I guess this is the next step. I have started by stringing some low quality freshwater pearls and beads on thin beading wire, and finishing them with toggle clasps. So far, what I have done has been...

    A day in China

Thanks for the answer! With that in mind, I went and checked my mother of pearl stash, and found that I had put a large lot of turtles carved from bone in with the mother of pearl. Bingo. The scent is obviously coming from the turtles! Now that I see that, I realize it is the faint odor of...

    Where to restring in NYC?

I didn't reply 'cause I don't live anywhere NYC, but I'm glad you got your problem resolved! I recently had a strand of pearls start to come unstrung near the clasp. All of the sudden about an inch of thread just appeared between the clasp and the first pearl on that side. I don't think the...

    A day in China

This might seem like a strange question, but is there a certain smell in a room full of pearls such as the one pictured? The reason I ask is that I make some jewelry, and I keep all of my mother of pearl components in a plastic tackle box. There is a smell when I open it that I can only assume...

Kink in strand of new pearls

I have a necklace that is kinked like this, unfortunately the kinks have not come out of mine. I think it is due to the fact that I NEVER wear this strand (they are freshwater "ringed" pearls that I bought before I knew that was not a good thing, they are moderately ringed and I do not care for...

    "Souffle' Pearls"

When I was a child, my Mother decorated "permanent" E whilaster eggs, they were raw eggs from which the contents had been removed while leaving the shell intact. This was done by making a small hole with a needle at each end of the egg and "blowing" out the contents. (Don't laugh, that is what...

    a few interesting pieces

They had one of his pieces on Gem Shopping Network a few days ago. It was pre-owned I believe (they seem to deal in a lot of estate jewelry.) I had never seen it before.
