    French Bullion Wire

Pearlcat, where do you live? We might be able to help you find a beading store with french wire so you can at least see it before you decide what size to order. I like "fine" size wire with up to 20 test PowerPro because you can barely see it, but some silk might not want to pass through it...

Locking a rope w/o a clasp and other questions about PowerPro

Have you ever had problems with the PowerPro turning black? I did this once before I had a zapper and I had to restring.

    Lost Opportunities

Congratulations! In the future, you might try esnipe.com. It's a very handy way to manage bids and minimize the chance of getting outbid at the last moment.

Locking a rope w/o a clasp and other questions about PowerPro

Breakage like that happened to me once. It seemed to be caused by brittleness from the thread zapper, though a sharp pearl might have been involved too. On the booboos thread, the going theory is that the gap comes from your last knot coming undone. Good luck!

    PearlsAmerica.com ? Freshwater or Akoya

Glad to see you here! Would you mind telling if the pearls were sold to you at prices you wouldn't have paid for freshwaters?

    Please recommend pearl glue

These replies didn't show up with my other new posts, for some reason. Very excited to see all this info. As always, many thanks for the expert guidance. I'll be too busy to attempt any pearlcraft until next week, so keep it coming! :) Wendy, I sometimes use a soldering "third hand" to...

    First Attempt at Knotting

Did they have you use two strands of silk, or one?

    First Attempt at Knotting

Those look wonderful, very nice job! It's a great feeling to take pearls on a sale strand and turn them into something that can be worn and enjoyed.

    PP April special

I'm just responding to a comment about traditional strand clasps-- I know nothing of tin cup construction! Nothing! Nothing at all! :D

    icomepacks on eBay?

I never have, but I usually double up for strands I want to sell or shoot for 15-17" for my personal use. Jiazzi, those should be very fun! You have to post pics of what you make with them. You're very right about some new buyers-- I also suspect that new accounts are sometimes created to...

That's quite wonderful--Is it a microfiber cloth of some sort? The only cloths I've had that worked that well came with thick gloves, warnings, etc. :) It's true jump rings will break after several twists, but after someone takes the clasp on and off that many times, it's probably a good time...

    icomepacks on eBay?

Someone else here gave them a thumbs up a year or two ago... I really like them and I'm on my third order. I don't pay much attention to grades though-- I mainly rely on the photos. Everything I've ever purchased from them looked as I expected it to look or better. But I should definitely...

    Some nice finds from E-Bay

Read back into the thread, checked out Apex and wow. If wysiwyg, that seems to be a great deal.

    John Tu's Pearls

Hmm... checking for payments and mailing pearls or emailing about delay due to travel is a TERRIBLE job. He'd have a hard time finding help, no doubt. No one would ever do it in exchange for a few strands of pearls and the learning experience. :D

Seriously. All he needs is a place to post photos, access to email and a way to get paid.

    Need advice on stringing material

Another vote for always knotting... better than a strand all over the floor a few years down the line! I use fingernail clippers to disassemble PowerPro (perpendicular pruning for pearl protection :D ) and a zapper to finish off a strand.

I only use silver or steel clasps ATM -- I'm willing to hunt down gold for people, but I'm not going to build up a little stock of gold findings on a bubble. People have asked me this question on etsy-- you just take the clasp off to polish it. Silver is soft, so you don't even need pliers to...

    My Kamoka Studs from Pearlescence!

This is infinitely preferable to the necklace-gazing habit I've acquired, which to bystanders must appear to be an unfortunate fascination with my own bosom. :)

    Chinese student coming to US

Saw your galleries-- absolutely breathtaking! It looks like you have some really deep-colored, dark lavenders in one bundle. Several PG regulars get really excited about those! :)
