I agree with Pearl Dreams, just for the sake of concurrence. They are chinese freshwater pearls. The necklace is not of significant monetary value, but certainly wouldn't have been thrown in the trash, if it had been me! Enjoy your find! They're certainly very wearable.

The pearls do look nice, but I have not personally ever seen this clasp from Mikimoto. I'm far from a Mikimoto expert, however. They do indeed make their clasps in 18kt gold though You could probably call Mikimoto and ask them, too.

No kidding. Just for clarification however -- not sure if it's new/changed -- but the AA strands also had the diamond in the clasp. Only A and A+ strands had the pearl in it.

Those are some dark Tahitians! I like them.

It was the normal Mikimoto clasp, but with a small diamond in the center, serving as the release for the clasp.

Thanks for the pictures, Bweaves! Here's an additional photo from Vegas that I thought people might be interested in seeing. On the far left is the PP NWH strand, and next to it are Mikimoto A+, AA, and AAA strands, respectively. The only one not in 5-figure prices were of course the PP...

Just wanted to echo the above. They're cool to look at and fun to make things with, for sure! - But no significant monetary value. Hope you find something cool to do with the collection!

Your pearls are always amazing, but your clasps are just as great, imho. I would love to find cool clasps!

Thank you! Mom tried on the big WSS strand too, but that one cost about three times as much as the $55,000 Akoya strand, so we were very careful with it, lol. :D It was sure fun to visit.
