The Most Incredible Akoya Pearls I Have Ever Seen

No need to hide under your desk.. :) I'm quite confident that there's no unusual surface treatment here, but I suppose we shall also hear from Pattye who is more of an expert than I am! I, too, have never heard of an Akoya pearl being treated. Speaking of, I got good news that Pattye received...

    Help your opinion with Akoya

Low grade Akoya can look like this- kind of chalky, but it's not what you should be looking for if you're spending good money and want Akoya. There's no way to be sure, but my first thought was imitation or shell pearl. Would agree with finding a vendor you can trust if you have to buy...

Out running some errands. Today finds Mom wearing some simple but very high quality Akoya studs, around 8.5mm-ish My mom likes the classic, slight pink-ish hue. I show her some of the great stylings on this thread and she always chuckles in admiration because she keeps things so simple! Great...

    Bahraini pearl necklace

I'll PM you. But, also, what gorgeous pearls. An amazing gift. I think BWeaves is right about the random FWP being somewhat of a signature.

The Most Incredible Akoya Pearls I Have Ever Seen

Just for reference purposes, here is a comparison with the strand from the first post and a strand of 8.5-9.0mm (the original strand is slightly smaller at 8.0-8.5mm) Hanadama pearls from a trusted vendor. I won't name the vendor because this isn't really a "versus" comparison, but rather just...

Are 'Sea Magic by Mikimoto' Seawater or Freshwater?

Funny enough, I had a chat with KatBran about this the other day - I was positive that these "Distributed by" lines were still all Akoya saltwater pearls, but then like you when I looked some things up I saw references to freshwater pearls. From a quick search, it seems that they come in both...

    Tahitian Love

Truthfully wasn't as tempted by this one. The strands look just fine, but I'm not a fan of non-round strands and the Tahitian sale has always bene the thing to wait for to get a couple thousand off a nice strand (to me) and not $150 off a baroque strand. But, they do certainly have some nice...

Paspaley Pearls - Buying with US $ is it worth it or paying a premium for the name?

No doubt you're paying something for the name, but keep in mind that not all WSS pearls will be created equally. PP and Paspaley have vastly different target markets, so it would not surprise me if you're wanting to get the EXACT same quality from PP, it may be more expensive to get nicer pearls...

The Most Incredible Akoya Pearls I Have Ever Seen

I wish I could! I just don't know what it is. These aren't hanadama certified or anything like that - I guarantee they'd pass of course. My only guess is "a lot," lol. Some of the pearls have a slightly uneven texture because of the thickness of the nacre. The other thing is they're extremely...

Travelling to Malaysia and Philippines in Jan/Feb 2020... advice please?

I would say if you haven't taken the PearlsAsOne course yet it would be very helpful as an overview on GSS before you go - even if you only look at the GSS section. There's a free code you can get from PP, if I remember correctly. My only advice on gold south sea is that they are expensive...

The Most Incredible Akoya Pearls I Have Ever Seen

Hi Pearl Guide friends... So, I'm partaking in a very cool photo project that involves pearls. :D I unfortunately don't think I'll be able to share final photos for some time due to a contractual obligation, but I am more than allowed to share the truly special Akoya pearls that will be used...
