    Budget for a WSS necklace

Customs regularly snag up my packages too (I’m in Canada). They always eventually clear and find their way here, but the wait can be frustrating and unpredictable (some don’t get stopped, some do, some clear in a day, some get held up many days, but all have arrived safe and sound). Hope yours...

Where to buy in the UK?

I would recommend: https://www.pearlescence.co.uk The owner is a member here and if you do a search, you can see the many beautiful pieces others have purchased from her.

I think I just bought fake South Sea pearl earrings. HELP!

Were they described as shell pearls? Those are faux and would be very heavy. I’d suggest maybe taking them to a jeweler who sells pearls and compare them (or have them take a look).

Size of my SS pearls - are these 10.0-11.0 mm?

Zowie, As Jeremy has said, pearls are measured at the widest point perpendicular to the drill hole (so the other way to how you are measuring), and a caliper is the only accurate way to measure. Yours do look to be the right size. Model ears and your ears may be very different. Same with...

Consignment Purchase- Can anyone tell me what I have?

Heidih, I think what you paid for them would be about right for freshwater pearls of that quality. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of wearing them.

What do you want to give or get for Valentine's Day 2011?

Cards and a nice dinner. Maybe a little chocolate for us both.

Kamoka Pearls Instagram Contest Starts Today!

Thanks for that link. Hmmm, I don’t mind liking or sharing, but I draw the line at tagging people. Most of my friends would not appreciate the tag (for this or anything really).

I prefer the top strand by far.

Kamoka Pearls Instagram Contest Starts Today!

I’m on instagram, followed them, but it’s not clear how to enter the contest? I think I’m becoming badly behind the technology times.

    Strand Comparison

I have to admit, the most beautiful pearls I have ever seen were both Mikimoto strands. The AAA akoya are stunning. But an 18 inch 7.5-8mm strand was retailing at $10K USD almost 10 years ago, so would be more now. Three or four years ago I saw a 35 inch multicolor round Tahitian Mikimoto...

    Strand Comparison

Having been to a Mikimoto store in NYC, the strands in each grade range tend to be quite uniform in terms of luster and blemishing, with the main difference between the grades being reflected by greater or lesser amounts of luster, rather than number of blemishes. And the AAA strands are really...

    Correct pearl wearing etiquette

It depends. If your partner is looking for a classic set, then you’d be looking at matching earrings/strand or earrings/pendant and maybe a bracelet or ring to complete the set at some point. These would all be with pearls of the same type, color, metal color, and style. If she’s not looking...

Fiona, So good to see you again! I LOVE your strands. They are all stunning.

    My cheapo WSS bracelet.

Yeah, I know. It’s how it came out but I don’t think it was intended that way. I think he was just saying that he appreciated your enthusiasm and joie de vie on a limited budget (which we’ve all had/have). We all appreciate that about you and your finds. I’m personally excited to see neck...

One or two fabulous piece or many lesser pieces?

I overspent on too many inexpensive pieces in the beginning that now all look the same. It also took me a bit to find my style. In hindsight I’d prefer one great example of each style of item. I have a bunch of things I really don’t wear.

    My cheapo WSS bracelet.

Azurazzy, I don’t believe Eric was trying to insult you. He was trying to compliment you. English as a second language is very difficult and things often get lost in translation or come out more blunt than would otherwise be intended. Plus, google translate offers literal translations, not...

This is freshwater instead of southsea pearls isnt it?

Are they “shell pearls” (aka faux)? They don’t look like south sea to me, but they don’t look like freshwater either. They look faux. Is the seller from China?

    Everyday Pearl Ring- tough

Most hospitals have dress codes that are pretty strict about jewelry (and nail polish). Most do not let you wear any jewelry (except small stud earrings) or nail polish due to contamination concerns. So buy a ring for outside of work, or maybe a pair of small stud earrings.

    Black strand from Indonesia.

I think it will look beautiful as a non-graduated strand without an obvious centre pearl (if it were obviously graduated, it would need a centre pearl, but with them evenly matched up each side, I don't think one is necessarily needed - although you will know more when you see how it hangs). I...

    Black strand from Indonesia.

It's much prettier with the Tahitian pearl in the clasp. Also they look more balanced now. Plus, without a center pearl, you have a spot to hang an enhancer from if desired. Maybe there's a way to get one to match the clasp?
