    P. Maculata + P. Maxima: Once and for all.

Since you asked........ Either have the pearl tested by the GIA or send it back to Budi. If it is in fact bead nucleated, why keep it, since the pearl's quality appears to leave a lot to be desired. ;) BTW, I happen to like the way the current pearl looks in the necklace. Gail

    P. Maculata + P. Maxima: Once and for all.

I'd have the pearl tested and here's why.... Although, a lab's opinion of whether the pearl is natural or a cultured keshi might be questionable, a lab report will tell you if the pearl is bead nucleated and if the color has been treated in any way. In my opinion, these issues are important. If...

    My Jumbo SS Pearl

Before obtaining an appraisal, you might want to have the pearl x-rayed and identified by a gem lab. A lab report will be able to ascertain if the pearl contains a bead nucleus or not. If there is no bead nucleus, the lab may be able to determine if the pearl is cultured or natural. Without a...

    Drilling freshwater pearls

I just noticed this pearl drill. Although, the price sure is right, you will need to use it with a flex shaft. http://www.ottofrei.com/store/product.php?productid=19397&cat=2507&page=1 Gail

    PearlsAmerica.com ? Freshwater or Akoya

Pearlguy, below is an exact quote taken directly from your website: "If the pearls do not meet our explicitly high GIA standards, we pass rather than use inferior quality." I'm confused; can you please tell us what these GIA standards are that you refer to?  Gail

    Tom Stern's natural pearls

Hi Tom, I'm confused. What misnomer are you referring to; is this it, "..... because the culturing process has become so efficient that big Keshi have become very rare ....."? Are you saying SS keshi are not rare? Also, do you happen to remember the prices of these keshi strands? Gail

    CIBJO Pearl Commission

Thanks to Peter, Jeremy, and Douglas for responding to my question. I will be contacting the labs in NYC to see if they have any information on this metal fluid treatment. Douglas, that was an impressive article I read about your company in "Colored Stone". Gail

    CIBJO Pearl Commission

Possibly, but if this process is being done in China.......... well, according to recent news articles, it sure seems that they're not exactly known for they're high quality controls. Peter, is the injection of the "metal fluids" responsible for the beautiful metallic luster I've seen on some...
