    New Freshwaters

I just spoke to Jack. Unfortunately, he's not able to write up anything now because he's so busy getting ready for the Tucson show but he did fill me in via the phone. He said,"The mollusks are nucleated with muck". That's right....... "muck" as in dirt..... I kid you not! By the time the pearl...

    New Freshwaters

A few days ago, I received this email from Jack Lynch (Sea Hunt). I spoke with him and he's going to send me more information which I'll post. Those of you going to Tucson can see these in person. "These are a new type of freshwater pearl on the market that I will be featuring in Tucson this...

PEARLS by Elisabeth Strack - How Do I Order It

"His Place"............ I think it's his apartment :p at least that was where he used to sell from. He also represents European goldsmiths in the US; ask him to show you some of their jewelry. Gail

    Natural pearl french website

Although the jewelry under the "Collections" catagory is nice, many of the pearls do not appear to me to be natural. To me, they look to be cultured freshwater pearls. Gail

Dogeared Jewelry - perpetrating the myth

I do not have an answer to your question. I can only tell you that I have studied with master goldsmiths of classical/ancient jewelry and the formula that I printed above was the one they shared with me. Gail

Tears of Mermaids: The Secret Story of Pearls

Somewhere in the anals of TPP, a poster wonders too, if someone is posting as ZE, but Jeremy specifically puts any notion of a ZE impersonator to rest. I can't find his post but he is quite clear that it is really ZE posting under her own name. Gail

Dogeared Jewelry - perpetrating the myth

! No.... don't alloy with sterling. I had feeling you might think of sterling so I capitalized "FINE" in my prior post. If you want electrum, use only fine silver to alloy with the gold. Gail

Dogeared Jewelry - perpetrating the myth

The few times I've worked with electrum, I've alloyed it myself. Start with a piece of 24k gold and weigh it. Then add 40% of FINE silver to whatever the 24k gold weight is. ex: Melt (10 dwts of 24k gold plus 4 dwts of fine silver) = electrum. For a little stronger metal, you can use 22k...

    Exotic Strands Are Coming!!!!!!!!!!!!

I received my 9-9.5 mm strand yesterday. In my opinion, it is not as metallic looking as the picture on the PP website. However, that being said, it's still a lovely strand of pearls. Gail

What are the sizes of the golden Akoya and how thick is the nacre? Gail

    Exotics!!!

What do you mean when you say, "layering of the photo"? I ask this because several weeks ago, I posted a picture of my strand of round metallic CFW pearls (post #194 I think). Towards the end of the strand, a few of the pearls look off-round in the picture but in in reality, they are true...

    Tears of Mermaids Imminent

No kidding! I just checked my Amazon account to make sure my order is still there. However, after reading today's post on TPP, it seems that Stephen Bloom may need another chapter. :( Gail

The Most Valuable Tahitian Color or Overtone

No, technically speaking, they are not "Tahitian" pearls; they are black south sea pearls. The description "Tahitian" pearl is just a branding term, made up by the organization GIE Perles de Tahiti, for marketing and promoting only those pearls from the French Polynesian islands. Gail

    Private Offer List

Don't bother with a search. If I remember correctly, back in early 2008, the calendars were sent to us from Pearl Paradise. They were free and yes, the pictures are lovely. Call them, maybe they still have some available (LOL). Gail

    Exotics!!!

This is my "exotic" strand. Although, my photography does not do the pearls justice, they are really quite metallic and range in size from 9.7mm - 10.5mm.
