    White Hanadama or Blue Madama?

agree with Pattye here. if you already own a white strand, go Madama. check your wardrobe as well. you might be aiming for a silver blue strand but won't be able to use it much. that or you overhaul your wardrobe as well, hahaha!

Your Opinion Please! First pearls purchase

I bought a double baroque akoya strand, had it customized to be a single rope, swapped out the double clasp for large orbit clasps. This way, I have the option of wearing it single and long, or double and short. :) Including GST (7%), Fedex shipping... it was still a good deal, and Erin from PP...

Your Opinion Please! First pearls purchase

not bad for a first buy! think of them as training wheels, you are still getting to know your style. Do you prefer gssps over whites? Round tahitians over baroques? the sharp luster of akoyas or satiny finish of wssps? just my lousy 2 cents though: the tahitians looks a bit flat grey. for...

    My First Baroque Akoya Strand

thanks everyone, for the compliments and for the jewelry shop stories! gave me some assurance that yeah, nothing's wrong with it. thoughts that ran in my head were: - maybe a pinked strand doesn't suit my skin type - maybe they're too shiny, but since when was that a bad thing? - am I not...

    GSSP Harvest Strands, take two!

Wow, 104 inches! that's like, mermaid queen levels! woot woot! Are they easy to wear? Looks heavy... :D

    Strand Comparison

Ooooh, hanadama eye candy! Nice! :D It would boil down to your preference. If you liked the pinked overtone of the Miki strand (which based on this discussion, I think you're leaning towards that), then go for the top one. Middle strand looks ivory/creamy, bottom is more silvery. Luster...

    My First Baroque Akoya Strand

Thanks everyone! But here's an interesting and rather awkward scenario... During lunch time, I accompanied my friend to a local jewelry shop (not the high end ones) because she was looking for loose rubies. They were also selling pearls, although they seem to be akoya with really thin nacre...

    Golden earrings size?

Try using big backings for studs 10mm and above. They hold the pearl stud in place and it won't droop all day long. Small butterfly backings won't cut it. I do have small earlobes but I can wear up to 14 mm semi-rounds (which I once borrowed from my grandma, hahaha!), using those backings...

    My First Baroque Akoya Strand

They're heeeeeeeeere! and I love it! ok, it wasn't exactly love at first sight when I first saw the strand. I got the package at 5:57pm yesterday, and after a gruelling day at work, I was just a little low on energy. Upon opening the box, I was like, hmm, too many uneven surfaces. But hey...

    My First Baroque Akoya Strand

It was supposed to be delivered today at noon, then Fedex went all "delivery exception" on my parcel (yes, I am a maniac tracking my parcel! :p), and now it's rescheduled for tomorrow! Argh!! What an annoying buzz killer, ugh! so the usual after-wear wipe down applies, and i'll check on...

    Strand Comparison

Personally, I think Mikimoto is still THE authority when it comes to pearls. Their designs are top notch, and they always provide something fresh and timeless. For strands, the Miki pearls are well matched and the quality is definitely there. The tenyo comes really close to an AA (i just can't...

    My First Baroque Akoya Strand

Thanks PD, Cathy and Pareltje! They are gorgeous on photos, and I really do hope they are awesome IRL as well! Never really thought of myself as a strand person, but too much shows like The Crown, Mad Men and even The Post influenced me -- and hanging out here too! I always had the impression...

    My First Baroque Akoya Strand

My wssp studs were feeling lonely, I didn't have a pendant or necklace to go with it. :p took me some time to decide on what to get (pendant or strand, went with strand), then what strand design and length, blah blah blah... I wanted a 35-in tenyo strand, but decided against it. It was too much...

    Golden earrings size?

I have 12mm studs from Jewelmer as my first "grown-up" pearl jewelry. They were bold enough to make a statement, but not big enough to be obscenely expensive. At first, I found them huge. Gave it a few weeks, now 12mm is my norm. :p Here it is with my pendant.

    Grey... something?

thanks everyone. the grey color confused me, hahaha! she was sure it were akoyas, though. or at least her seller was, she picked them up in greenhills on a biz trip. another friend thought they were grey ssps. this is a 35-in rope, I'm giving it a shot. I have a desk job literally...

    Grey... something?

hello pearl people! a friend lent me this necklace as part of my research (still working on what strand length i should go for). not sure what it is though, she said they are akoyas. it is pretty heavy and has grit to it, so yeah, they're real. the buttons, color and some spots throw me off...
