    Mikimoto w/o clasp but tags/box/stamp

Let us know how it goes with Miki...I say fight to get a mikimoto clasp on them. Still it would be a modern 18K clasp & they could have been meant for a silver clasp & the old style clasps looked different so the strand would not be period correct. Doubt they can trace the record number back to...

J.C.O 1925 box of graduated pearl necklace

Gosh...killjoy....leaving us hanging..... After seeing the similar natural strand with same clasp...It would be nice if they took a peek inside the drill holes & give an update..strand in question which looks like could be akoya...natural strand may be basra/ says origin persian gulf...

    Mikimoto w/o clasp but tags/box/stamp

The link did not work...It looks genuine to me but I have never seen one before. Not too many strands around that never were issued clasps.

    Mikimoto w/o clasp but tags/box/stamp

Gosh never seen one with a label right out before the clasp. Miki really won't auth wo clasp but this one appears to have the original miki tags attached & you might get that one by them or else it was a fake way back but not likely at that time with the box. These days a box or a clasp is not...

    Chipped Pearls

Most German silver is 800...Any old silver is nice. Its still not that expensive per oz but is adds up esp if one spoon is 3 oz thats going to cost least $100 per spoon with labor or even $50 metal value... They just don;t make 8 or 9 oz silver ladles anymore...Guess if I shined it up I could...

    Chipped Pearls

Thanks! England goes back a bit further than America....LOL I've always been fascinated by history & jewelry is the most interesting. I think some of the hallmarks omakers marks were lost in a fire in the 1600's? Interesting on the weight limit. Earrings in general esp stud are lighter but I...

    Chipped Pearls

We don't know what that wavy flat ring is. You don;t always see it like that & sometimes its very hard to see but it appears that the nacre is a bit different texture. Hard to say what would cause it as if it sat in water or some acid I would think the entire top would appear that way Its wavy...

    Chipped Pearls

That was interesting & seems I missed a page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touchstone_(assaying_tool) They scratch the metal on a stone or black tile...it could be slate..I like to even use a natural stone for honing knives... Plat will scratch & test white but white gold will look bronzy on...

I'm sure Dave won;t want to leave this great place & I;m pretty sure he has a strong backbone & can emerge from this. Can't take everything to heart. I wonder why sand in the center of pearls is not more common. Seems to me its a irritant just as much or more than the other things & plentiful on...

    Chipped Pearls

I have 2 sets of acid but I think my acids should be right. That is surely possible the unscrupulous gold buyers would want to get 14K for 10 K price. Most likley 14K could fail 14K acid as it could be 13.5 K I'm not an expert on acid or scratch tests but color of the scratch & feel with...

Natural GIA ID Pinctada radiata earrings for discussion

Good to know but its out of my price range even reduced from $8000 but would someday hope to snag a natural pair. Still color/luster is not all that gloreous but pearls are hard to capture with photos. 8mm is quite large & they are pretty nice off round but decent. Most naturals I see are under...

OOOh very nice. I really did not get dressed. Threw on a long red tank tee dress to lounge. Hmmmm well maybe I could put something one & go to the corner store to get bread...What good is having the pretty baubles if they never see the outside of the jewelry box...

Only the oyster knows for sure...I know little but seems any foreign body could irritate. Sand is one but it could be any irritant /plant matter or fish/ crustacean/parasite...Those would decompose after time & just look like a small void near the origin area. Sand/quartz/coral or whatever hard...

    Chipped Pearls

Thanks everyone. Trying to put this in perspective. Did not do much today. Had thoughts of going to the mall to look or Tiffany just to see but it got late. Two/5 of them (one GIA) buy jewelry for a living. I would tend to think they must know what they are doing at least with precious metals...

    Chipped Pearls

Thanks...I bought them because they were said to be platinum. I can get gold settings anywhere. I want the entire earring to be platinum. I'm not sure what to do next. I weighed a smaller 18K meccan clasp & it was the same weight as the larger platinum screw clasp. I seriously don't want to...

Different clasps on Mikimoto necklaces .. what do they mean?

1/4 retails value is very good!!!! I paid a bit more than half of certificate value. on my 40 plus year old strand at the time. Still to me it was unique as it was old & had a nice size. I'm just glad they were A+ as I really did not know the grade. A+ on that old of a strand is pretty good...
