Also, it seems to be that the size of these pearls is just a bit too small for this setting. I'd want the new pearls to almost touch the diamonds and not have so much room between the setting and the pearl.

Thanks @StevieBoy for your comment. This really is such a beautiful and well-designed clasp. The little "pin safety" arm is was broken/worn when it first arrived and my jeweler had to refresh the gold to get it to pop in the tiny hole again. That's what I LOVE about all uniquely designed clasps...
