I always enjoy checking Atlas galleries whenever I visit Bali. Price is a bit high but their pearls are truly gorgeous :) There are many pearl vendors in Lombok as well. Just need to be careful and know exactly what you're looking for. They like to say cheap freshwater pearls as "Lombok pearls"...

Where is your location and what size of pearl you want? You can get nice freshwater pearl strand with that budget, but it depends on the pearl size.

Late to this conversation, but that "AAA" from PPI is bad.... I've checked PPI on ebay before, and their prices are quite high, so I'm surprised their quality is actually sub-par. Moreover, the last pic shows they're kinda creamy so they look FWP-ish to me. I uploaded pic on my album on FWP vs...

Luster-wise, they look AAA to me. But I still can't see the scratch. Where did you purchase the pearls from? Return is a hassle for overseas purchase but try to talk to the vendor first, maybe they will offer some solutions.

I consider the surface "texture" to be normal, as long as it's not too wide. The scratch though, I can't see it on the picture.... But if it's bothering you, try to contact the vendor for replacement. Luster-wise, they seem to be high from the last picture. But the black background doesn't...

I checked that one on PP but didn't remember the details. Did they mention about the grade of the pearls on the website? I personally think the SSP look A+/AA grade (the close up one with obvious blemishes). Care Ehret ones are nicer, they're smooth with high luster, definitely higher grade.

My vote is also on real Tahitian pearls. The pearl on the right doesn't seem to be perfect round to me, it's slightly drop shape. I also have pearls that don't pass tooth test, at least not obviously gritty like most pearls. But I know for sure they're real.
