    Kundan necklace,Indian ingenuity

Thank you for your comments,Iv been out of the loop for a few weeks,so am catching up.Afterthe initial euphoria of realising it wasn’t brass, and not dipped,do I want to get it checked out? Our local snooty jeweller refuses to believe any Indian jewellery is gold because it doesn’t carry a...
  2. Epilogue…Thought I would post the resulting necklace.Icame across an old broken Indian tikka or headdress with 6” of pearls, and a gold and uncut diamond pendant.Iv “ married the two strands together, and I am so happy with my little piece of Indian history.

    Kundan necklace,Indian ingenuity

I’m no expert,so could have got it all wrong, and yes,I wondered if it was dipped, but I did the unthinkable and scratched it to find the brass, but if it’s a coating it’s pretty thick.Maybe someone can put me right,in which case I still love the necklace whatever it’s made of,but I tried the...

Thanks “El Cortez” I obviously don’t look at the right websites! The turquoise clasp is antique I think, the strand was bought at an antique fair in Scotland about 30 years ago.The other is a recent find, the clasp is modern, but the length is unusual for a modern necklace, and I wondered if they...

I have two small Pearl necklaces, one with an18 ct turquoise set clasp, the other with a 14 ct white gold clasp, both are about 14” long.Iv candled the larger pearls which all show up differently so I’m guessing not cultured.Neither strand is knotted but between each Pearl is a smaller Pearl,or...

Mystery pearl pendant that belonged to my mother

A question for Douglas,I’m a bit puzzled,in an earlier comment you said this gorgeous Pearl could be natural or freshwater.Aren’t early river pearls Naturals too? Are they less rare or valuable than natural saltwater pearls?

    Origins of Berber wedding pearls...

The strand is 54” or 138 cms long, and is strung on very fine thread, not horsehair, but I suppose it they could have been restrung. They are about 4 mm wide and 2mm long.rI love the romance, that they would have been worn by a Berber bride for her wedding, then parted with when money was tight,but...
  15. Of course! They were round my neck like a rat up a drainpipe! Iv taken another photo to gauge the size, and a string of rice crispies for comparison. The rice crispies are crinkly all over, but the tiny pearls are much smoother. My spaghetti is boiling over...more Pearl chat later...
