    Pearl Symmetry and Rotation Mechanics

This thread was brought to the attention of the University of Granada faculty and the associated international biomineralization research team. It has reawakened interest in studying the nature of those pearls with vortical growth patterns, and to readdress the rotational mechanics involving all...

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

Recently a forum was created called 'Pearl Diver' for scientific and/or diversionary posts such as this one. But those Tokkis shocked me into realizing that the AI that created the image in THIS POST was thinking Tokki all the time! Scary!

Cultured (Beaded) Abalone Pearls from Chile

Douglas, belatedly seeing this. Were these the folks at PBTB in May? Unfortunately we didn't make it by their table. Question 1: Given the 35% rejection rate, are they getting any keshi? Question 2: Is there any thought of removing the protein deposits, following the precedent of polishing...

    Giant Edison Pearls are Here

Does Ravi have a pearl trade market for his shells after all?

    Giant Edison Pearls are Here

Taking nothing away from the technological achievement, this is size for its own sake, like American cars in the mid-20th century before the oil crisis. Will fins be next?

    Giant Edison Pearls are Here

Now that's really shot down the market for dye cast or 3D bead prints from shell powder (from another thread). Next the beads will be hollow. Ping-pong pearlomacy, anyone?

    Pearl Symmetry and Rotation Mechanics

Round, Drop, Button, Circle. Symmetry in pearls is the foundation of their appreciation and historical value. So much so that the cultured pearl industry went to great extremes to give them a head start and helping hand with round bead nuclei. But even with the head start the mollusk must...

Regarding mop nucleus of lamellindens marginals

So Ravi was just wondering if there might be a commercial outlet for the small shells, other than fertilizer. Seems he's out of luck!

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

To continue with the baseball analogy, when facing a pitcher with a delivery as fast, accurate and varied as yours the hitter is lost if he tries to guess. He can only react and trust his instincts. It's a privilege to follow your passion and see the superb results!

Subscribes to the 'less is more' aesthetic. No whiplash this time. A pattern is emerging (until it is broken).

Regarding mop nucleus of lamellindens marginals

I wonder if Ravi's species-specific inquiry has any merit? Would the matrix material in 3D-printed mussel shell beads make them incompatible? The powder itself is not a mystery, it's mass produced as a soil pH amendment for agriculture and for the poultry industry.

Regarding mop nucleus of lamellindens marginals

This thread just came to my attention due to a reorganization of the forum threads today. The poster refers to his concept of producing custom beads from shell powder, in the manner of 3D printing. Having just seen a 60 Minutes report on plans for 3D-printing a moon base, consideration seems...

From tin cup to this. Whiplash!! In featuring none, all are featured. If I had dug this up in a chest on a beach somewhere I would believe it was a lost pirate treasure!

The keshis are so special, tin cup is more eyecatching and a better use than in a strand, even assuming no shortage of pearls. And I really like the yellow gold contrast. Very nice piece!

    A golden ring to match...

A beautiful ring. The substantial setting gracefully enhances and does not distract from the pearl.
