Advice: $500 budget, want to buy a nice strand for my wife. Where to buy?

I'D buy from someone who would give you regular restringing included in the price. We have done it and I have customers who do it. I guarantee you big box does 't do it. Very much the same as some auto manufacters are doing for various mileage of 20k, 30k,40k, at no charge maintenance,

Does nice diamond clasp ensure I have natural pearls?

If lyou dont wish to putto your teeth. Take a simulated strand, at macys if you have to, rub two beads together, note smoothness, now do with cultured and you should notice a difference. Do with out gloves. Capitals dont mean anything.

    Evaluation Forum.

I have seen quite a few synthetics. 98% are junk. A majorica in the origonal box has some value. David, another line, has some also. Most of them are junk. Stores like good will or st vinnies have tons of this stuff. The finest beaded necklace we have strung in the many decades were hand...

    Enlarging drill holes

Lot depends on much larger you want to make the hole. I use a tapered reemer found at some jewelry sites or catalogues. Care should be used to use water and not too high a speed so the drill doesnt burn orburn the pearl. You can drill a tenth or two tenths of mm at a time to enlarge the hole...

IDENTIFICATION of 2 NATURAL PEARLS - Help Needed

My guess is the one mounted in white is natural freshwater. The other has a shape that is common to the above and also Chinese FW. I'v e seen older Japanese Biwas with that shape. The mounting is no indication. i.e. new pearls set on old mountings.

    What kind of pearls?

Hold them at the edge of a floresent light and twist and see if the pearls "blink" as the light reacts to the nucleus inside. Less blink more coating. Seems like a nice 3.5 mommee strand. Bettter photos are needed.

Need help to identify some pearls.

I learnt recently that you can rub two together and feel the same grittiness as the tooth test. I tried it an it works to some degree. I was shown "shell pearls" in Vancover BC and the seller maintained they were made of the same material as cultured. SURE simulated....The pictures remind me...

miki or not miki or not Caitlin is probably right....questionable cultured considering the hole size. Box and clasps don't mean a thing....neither are made by Miki... clasps they use come from Spain and the boxes who knows. They are a brand name bailed out by the Japanese gov't during the...

knotting knotting No matter what method of knotting you learn, I do not recommend you insert awl or tweezers into the knot and slide the knot with them- it is too awful to do that on 45 pearls then have the knot slide off and tighten too far from the bead! I agree!! if you use a tool and...
