Purple Edison pearl, colored or natural

The problem is, some purple Edisons are dyed. We can't tell just by looking at them. And the dyed pearls seem to fade over time. So, is the price tempting enough that you'd want them even if they turned out to be dyed and they fade in time?

    Help identifying/evaluating inherited pearls - 2

With a 10x loupe (magnifier) the surface of genuine pearls would look very smooth. Were you using a loupe? I'm not sure what you mean by swirly irregularities. If your tests showed they were cool like the FWP and a bit gritty when rubbed together, then yes, they'd be akoyas based on round shape...

The 1st strand are real baroque cultured Chinese freshwater pearls. :) The 2nd necklace in the box-- I can't tell from the photos if they are real or fake. Do the same tests we suggested in your previous thread. a. Rub 2 pearls together gently-- smooth or gritty? Gritty = real, smooth = fake...

Identity antique southseas Golden pearl necklace

OP wrote a 2nd post: "Seem to be diamonds on clasp 800 stamped in clasp. Interested in finding the actual company that made the necklace?" I see some things that make me think it may be an imitation strand (and the "diamonds" actually rhinestones.) Pearls collect a patina of grime over time as...

    Who designed this necklace?

To me it looks like baroque pearls strung on leather, with knots. Are you sure of the gold, diamonds and chain, and if so, where did you see this photo?

    Fuzzy knots

Those knots are a lot less fuzzy than the ones in the photos you posted on your original thread. Barely any fuzz, and I would say that is normal wear and tear. I'd say, "Focus more on the pearls and less on the knots", but you may just be more sensitive to the appearance of the knots than...

    Inherited mystery strand

I edited the above post so please reread it. I am beginning to lean more toward akoyas, because a number of my impressions could just be because the pearls need to be cleaned and maybe that center pearl is showing some camera distortion. Do try the temperature test-- and please post what you find!

    Inherited mystery strand

I am getting an imitation pearl vibe from them, despite their varied size and shapes, which otherwise would make me lean toward their being off-round akoyas. (I have had imitation pearl necklaces with varied shapes.) I know you said they feel gritty but sometimes people say that but it's really...

Ball bearing look question and white/silver or silver

If you're talking about Hanadama grade pearls, the lab that certifies them as Hanadama certifies the 18" length strand. I expect it can be strung shorter on request, but you should probably get the extra, leftover pearls, loose. Not only in case you want to lengthen the strand someday, but...

    How do these look

I think they may actually be cultured akoya pearls that were restrung in a way that one would usually use for lesser bead necklaces. It's hard to tell luster against a dark background-- white paper towel would be better. Also if they are grimy from all the usual stuff (skin oils...

    Vintage Mikimoto real/fake

I agree-- someone put a poorly strung strand of inexpensive freshwater pearls in a Mikimoto box.

Ball bearing look question and white/silver or silver

I believe the OP is referring to the metallic look of high luster pearls. I also recommend Pearl Paradise. Besides white akoya pearls (which may have silver overtones) there are also naturally colored silver /silver-blue akoyas, which have not been through the usual bleaching process.

How to fix loose end of knot myself?

Do you feel like trying to restring it yourself? :) It's only a bracelet and would not take long. My tutorial: https://www.pearl-guide.com/threads/stringing-tutorial-with-photos-stringing-on-serafil-beaders-secret-power-pro.6604/

    Are these real?

I think they are imitations. • The surface has some small blemishes and other characteristics that look like imitations I've seen. • I see what looks like excess coating near some drill holes. • The size, color and luster are too uniform. • The smaller pearls next to the clasp is something I've...

    StarryPearl's thread

Actually you have good photos! I find it hard to capture overtones with freshwater pearls. but I see them clearly in your photos. Very nice job of knotting, too. Those bean clasps are so easy to use! I restrung my husband's T necklace with one as he was having a hard time with the clasp it...
