The peeling you see is of a very thin imitation coating. And yes, the excess coating near the drill hole is also a hallmark of fake pearls.

They definitely look like imitation pearls to me. Look at the pearl on the left of the clasp in photo #1. The pearl has lost some of its coating and you can see the bead underneath. Can you return them? I would.

I was also wondering about that. Could the luster treatment for these bead nuked FWP be different than that for the tissue nucleated ones?

Freshadama is Pearl Paradise's name for their high end FWP. I expect it is trademarked. I bought mine back in 2007! Other companies have similar pearls but have their own names for them. (Or they should.)

I agree-- I want to be wowed. If you keep a strand that doesn't wow you, that will end up being the strand you later replace with something better. And that is just wasting money, in my opinion. I suggest you keep looking, and definitely get photos of the actual strand you are considering...
