    Should i get these tested?

Nail polish remover would have taken the pearly-looking coating off if they were fake pearls.

Stringing Tutorial with photos: Stringing on Serafil, Beaders Secret & Power Pro

Good job! You will find it gets easier the more you do it. The pearls are pretty too-- I love circled Tahitians and those have nice colors and luster. Maybe you could use your phone to record the mirror image of a video playing on a laptop? (i.e. laptop in front of mirror with video playing...

    Help Identify Pearl Necklace

Also-- it's difficult to evaluate pearls photographed on a dark background. A white or pale neutral background is best. A paper towel works fine!

You took many photos but I'm having a hard time seeing the details bcause some photos are blurry and others are too pixilated when I click to see the enlarged photo.

Stringing Tutorial with photos: Stringing on Serafil, Beaders Secret & Power Pro

I have not seen a left handed video, but is there any way you can watch a regular right-handed video in a mirror? That would be the same effect. I find the way to avoid tangling is to go slowly and make sure your thread is free of tangles before each knot. Also to use the method I suggest in...

Help identify large silver pearls with gold pave clasp

The peeling you see is of a very thin imitation coating. And yes, the excess coating near the drill hole is also a hallmark of fake pearls.

Help identify large silver pearls with gold pave clasp

They definitely look like imitation pearls to me. Look at the pearl on the left of the clasp in photo #1. The pearl has lost some of its coating and you can see the bead underneath. Can you return them? I would.

    New Freshadamas are 🤯🤯🤯

I was also wondering about that. Could the luster treatment for these bead nuked FWP be different than that for the tissue nucleated ones?

    New Freshadamas are 🤯🤯🤯

Freshadama is Pearl Paradise's name for their high end FWP. I expect it is trademarked. I bought mine back in 2007! Other companies have similar pearls but have their own names for them. (Or they should.)

New arrival SSP should I keep?

I agree-- I want to be wowed. If you keep a strand that doesn't wow you, that will end up being the strand you later replace with something better. And that is just wasting money, in my opinion. I suggest you keep looking, and definitely get photos of the actual strand you are considering...

    Help identifying/evaluating inherited pearls - 2

The most important factor (with the exception of brand loyalty) is luster. Smooth pearls with just average luster are not as good as high luster pearls that have a few small blemishes. Beyond that, these can affect sales: • where is the seller located and where is the buyer? Some people prefer...

Anyone used Indian wholesaler kishore motiwala for SSP?

I think if you buy from them, you are more likely to be satisfied if you buy what they call AAA. As you probably know there is no standardization of pearl grading-- every vendor can define what they mean by the grades. But I would be sure of their return policy first, just in case you don't...

Anyone used Indian wholesaler kishore motiwala for SSP?

I've seen them on Etsy. My impression is that they are selling genuine SSP-- just not the best quality. But with SSP pearl prices so high, they are an affordable option.

    Guidance needed for mikimoto strand

Just knotting the end 3-4 pearls on either side will shorten it quite a lot (and look better). Counting the number of knots plus gaps in the necklace at present, I estimate that will shave off between 1.5-2 inches. If you also remove a few pearls, you can easily get it to 18".

So yes, they are akoyas. There is no advertising or selling allowed on Pearl-Guide, but you can list them on Loupe Troop if you like. The site was down for a while but is up and running again. There's always eBay, or you could consign them locally.

Yes, generally FW pearls cost less than akoyas. Akoyas are typically bleached to remove undesirable off-colors, then soaked in a large bottle of pink dye to add a pink overtone, because generally speaking it is flattering to most women and the market desires it. But against skin they look...

Based on color, they would be freshwater pearls, but they seem to be really nice ones. The best way to estimate what their resale value might be on eBay is to go do a search on eBay for SOLD necklaces like that one. Don't worry if you can't find the same brand; look for necklaces that are like...

Wondering what kind of pearls these are?

I agree, they are cultured Chinese FW pearls.
